History:
Mother: Lily Thompson-Matsuyama-Katsuya
Father: Tetsuya Matsuyama
Step-Father: Skylar Katsuya
Siblings: Koizumi (older +2), Kei (younger -5)

Lily Thompson, a famous pianist meets an aspiring artist, Tetsuya Matsuyama in a coffee shop while on vacation in Japan. A few years later they get married (despite the protests of the Thompson family) and have three children and Matsuyama-san becomes a successful card designer for Maximillian Pegasus (which lead to his step-family to finally approve of him)

At age 7 Hiromi Katsuya is on vacation and attends a duel monsters tournament nearby recommended by his father. There Hiromi meets Ryo Marafuji(8), Fubuki Tenjoin(8), Asuka Tenjoin (6).
He defeats Fubuki in the quarter-finals and Ryo in the finals.
NOTE: Sho was sick and was in the nearby hospital. (so he didn't meet him)

At age 10, Hiromi’s father dies in a plane crash. A few months afterwards, they move with his mother’s parents in England. 2 years after Tetsuya Matsuyama dies Lily, meets a young man in a coffee shop named Skylar Katsuya (half Japanese, half scotish) who is drawing designs for a helicopter. They become friends and after a year they get married (Koizumi is happy that their mother found someone, Hiromi says its fine as long as his mother is happy but obviously doesn’t trust Skylar and Kei opposes entirely)

Skylar makes many efforts into persuading Hiromi and Kei to like him. He even buys Hiromi a brand new motorcycle which he likes but Hiromi remains quiet and detached (14 yrs. Old). Lily says to Skylar that Hiromi is really like that and that even if Skylar doesn’t notice it, Hiromi has accepted him a long time ago (which is true since Hiromi saw how Skylar made his mom smile like before) but despite Skylar’s efforts Kei still doesn’t accept him. They visit Japan regularly to visit Skylar’s cousin’s son and daughter (he despises his cousin bec. He is a stupid drunkard and doesn’t care about his family so Skylar helps the family instead of his cousin) it is during these visits that Hiromi gets to know Jonouchi, Yugi, and the others and eventually Shizuka.
During a special dinner in his step father’s house, he meets Mokuba attending in place of his brother Seto Kaiba. He and Mokuba immediately get along and quickly become close friends.

At age 15 Hiromi is asked to become a model for the Japanese branch of a famous fashion agency. Hiromi agrees only after persuasion from his mother. After he moves to Japan leaving his family behind he quickly becomes famous all around Japan. It is also during this time that he becomes more acquainted with Seto Kaiba due to his frequent visits to Mokuba and also his closeness to Seto’s fiancée (Shizuka).

At age 16 he visits his family in England and then goes to study in North Academy. There he becomes the top ranked student but was frequently away due to his modeling job. He was also supposed to be North academy’s representative in a yearly duel with duel academy but he was not present.

At age 17 he quits his modeling job to apply for Duel Academy (since he found out that Ryo Marufuji was the representative for Duel Academy last year and he wants to see him again) but as a 1st year (since he missed most of his 1st year in North Academy so he wants to experience his 1st year without interruptions)
While going to the entrance exam he bumps into a lost little girl and helps her look for her mother which leads to him missing the entire test. He asks Seto if they can make him a transfer student to 1st year and Seto makes sure of it but he’ll start school 1 week later than the rest.

Skills:
Excellent dueling skills, motorcyclist, martial arts (Judo), Modeling, High IQ and analytical skills, see duel spirits, Fluent (Japanese, English, French, Italian, Spanish)

Personality:
He is often referred to as a calm and quiet person. But when he talks he usually has an extremely sharp tongue and can be extremely rude (some people, mostly girls disregard this because they are often distracted by his looks) but he is kind to those he considers friends. When he considers someone his friend he is extremely loyal.
He is confident about his dueling skills, although he doesn’t brag about it but when people undermine his dueling skills (like when most people thought that the reason he’s repeating his 1st year in duel academy was because he flunked in north academy) he feels insulted and is extremely eager to prove them wrong even to the extent of being slightly sadistic with his means.

His little brother states that there are 3 reasons and ways on why and how Hiromi says mean things; (1) He will glare and say extremely degrading things which means he either hates the person or is angry at the current moment, or you caught him in a bad mood; (2) When he scolds you and tells you about certain memories its cause he’s concerned; (3) He will tease you and will smirk often and taunt you a little, its either he’s just fooling around, you caught his attention, or both.

He often calls people mate and some girls love.
He doesn’t particularly care about rules but he hates it when people try to tell him what to do, which people often do so he sometimes seems rebellious.
Despite his seemingly very negative personality he has various soft-spots like his mother. He would do anything for his mother as long as it is to make her happy and will always follow what she tells him to do.

Fetishes and Strange behaviors:
He has a love for beautiful views in nature, bordering on obsession, which is why he never misses watching a sunset and that is why he preferred to stay in slifer red instead of obelisk blue even after being acing the annual exam (although he did transfer after being stalked in the slifer red dorm)
He is a little bit playful in a sense that he loves to tease certain people and sometimes when he teases someone, people think he’s being arrogant and full of himself but he’s just having a little fun.
