Description The Mass Effect series is my favorite game series pretty much ever. I've ALWAYS wanted to cosplay from it, but I SUCK at making armor, so I'm doing a dress version of the armor instead. XD My dad's making me the Viper sniper rifle, and I wanted to have the visor as well, so I made it.

This is the sniper rifle progress as of yesterday. The picture on your left is the nerf gun as it originally was when I bought it. The picture on your right is the gun after some mods that my dad did. You can see the costume progress as well. XD

He finished the mods today, so I can start painting it tomorrow after work. I'm super happy with it so far. ^_^ I've never had a weapon prop to carry around, so this is another first for me. So far, this cosplay is shaping up to be one of my favorites. XD

I'll be debuting my Mass Effect cosplay at ACen 2012. If you see me, come say hi!

Nice work on all! That barrel is sweet. If you don't mind my asking what did you use/what was the process to make the visor?

Thank you! ^_^ I used a few different things. It was a loooong process, but I'll try to cover the basics. I'm sorry if it gets a bit confusing. XD

A lot of it is sculpted with sculpey and then painted with acrylic and sealed with acrylic sealer. It's all mounted onto a headband with hot glue and super glue. The mouth piece and the piece that holds the HUD are mounted on pieces of an old XBox headset that my brother had and gave to me. The piece on my ear was originally a mini chess set toy that I found at a dollar store- I sculpted the technical looking piece to glue on top of it. Before baking the sculpey, I made sure that the copper wiring would fit into the grooves.

The HUD is a piece of blue plastic from a tupperware lid. To make the lines in it, I scratched the designs into the plastic with a seam-ripper and painted over them with the lighter blue color you see there, then wiped the excess off with my finger. The grooves that were carved created a channel for the paint and it wasn't wiped off because of that. It's attached to the visor with a couple of pieces of wire with sculpey beads on top to make a kind of "nail" to hold it there, and the corners are hot glued down for extra support.

I didn't really have a very well laid out game plan when I went into making this,so a lot of it is pure luck and making it up as I go along. XD

I appreciate the write-up! Not confusing at all - it looks really cool and I could tell a lot of work went into the visor alone. Great re-purposing of materials. I especially like the way you pulled off the HUD with the blue plastic.

Thank you so much! The HUD was the part that had me the most stumped, I'm glad it turned out looking ok. I'm sure I'll eventually make another visor, and if/when I do, I'll be sure to take lots of progress pics. XD
