Description Damiur curilli ~ (reconstructed animal bones)

~ A curious mammal that utilises a symbiosis with necrotizing bacteria to hunt pray much larger than itself. The nature of the creatures’ immunity to the bacterial toxins is unknown but the bacteria are passed from mother to child directly in her milk and colonise the animals gut and respiratory tract. Damiur hunt in packs and target larger mammals, infecting them by spraying them with saliva, adults will use a long bony tongue to inject the bacteria beneath the skin, they then stalk their pray for days until it becomes too weak to stand. Although a vestigial mandible is present the animal has lost the ability to chew, instead its upper jaw has become a bony tube though which it can suck necrotized flesh.
