Description Soo..

April is buddy sour, so I separated her for a couple weeks. I decided I would see how the separating went and took her out today. She did okay on the way up the path(same path as you see in "Autumn Trail To Paradise" ). We got up there, I took some pictrues, walked her back down some of the path(the trail is ALL a slushy mix, downhill, and there's a drop off on the right.) past the logs and trees.

Got on her.. and vroom! She took off. I bailed, then immediately got back on her. She took off again, but I was prepared and stopped her. She did a fast walk down the rest of the hill.

Well we got to the huge field-- home stretch-- and she started acting up. In the midst of trying to calm her down she BOLTED! I was riding sideways for a split second before sliding in the snow and looking up to watch her. That was the fastest I've seen my little horse ever run. She had her head tilted sideways as she darted away and it looked as if she was saying "Nah nah nah nah boo boo!"(mocking..)

I cant believe she ran down that field.. LOL! A huge, bumpy, slippery, slushy, hilly, downhill field. I got up and I started following her tracks only to find her in the barn. Her reins were laid neatly on her back but the bareback pad was hanging upside down on her belly. I took off her bridle/pad, put on her halter and left her tied in the straight stall for a while, while I went and got 20 bales and got on the computer for a little bit.

I took her out, got on her and rode her up the road. She was a perfect little angel Hardly any hesitation to go or anything.

Anyway that was my story of the day.. I just had to share it with someone

Yes, it's a beetle hackamore. April wasn't very responsive to it so I moved her into a snaffle bit.

aww okay, hey I have a question, Im thinking on getting a rubber curb bit for my new horse spirit, he's very gentle but at times will try and get away with bad behavior. And im not sure what bit to purchase. I want something gentle but i want a response from it. Would you mind giving me any tips? Im going to ride him in barrels, but for now it's just western pleasure.

As far as I know you will need to have to have a curb bit for showing Western Pleasure and I think any bit to ride games but I'm sure you know that. As far as a suggestion for a bit, I am no expert by any means.. Lol! I put my mare who is the same way (sensitive, but will test you at times) in a loose ring snaffle and she does great compared to what she did in the hackamore, although she still tests me at times seeing how barn sour she is. The key thing to remember is a bit is only as harsh as you make it. Gentle hands will create gentle control, harsh hands and ripping at the horse's mouth will bring out the worse of the bit. Hope that makes sense, and sorry I'm not much of a help.. LOL. Good luck at your shows! I can't wait until I can get into gaming.

Well, one thing I may suggest if you want to practice keeping your hands steady without bumping the horse in the mouth would be Dr. Cook's bitless bridle or one of the similar types of bridles. I am still learning to keep my hands steady and gentle, so I normally use that on my gelding so I don't jerk on his mouth. It works off of pressure along the muzzle and poll, nothing is in the mouth. Although it's expensive it has amazing reviews. My horse is a lot happier in it too.. LOL. Also, not sure if you're into the forums or not, but I am at the horse.com forum and the people there are super helpful and very knowledgeable with these types of things. If you joined there I'm sure you could get a lot better advice than I could give you. The forums are currently down at the moment but should be up eventually. But like I said, good luck!
