Training pic for the Yawarda: Grand Opening Event ^^

It was Serenity Lake's debut in Australia this winter, they had never competed there before now. And even for winter, it was far warmer than England with the hot sun beating down across the grassy outback. The occasional chilled winds threatened to break the overcast clouds that were set to pour down on the first days of the competition.

Josie headed out on an afternoon before the event started to get some jumps in with Dot, who had started to sweat from the heat; she had taken to Australia quite well and was doing well in the training. Watching from the fence was Angelica with a coffee, studying horse and rider as the mare took to the air with bounce from her powerful legs. She flung her cup into the bin when the pair was done and went to greet them at the gate.

"She looks ready!" Angelica opened the gate.

As the gate was shut behind them and Angelica joined them in the walk back to the stables, Josie loosened the reins and kicked her feet from the stirrups. "Yep, she's done well. Three day break now before the show day!"

After Dot was put away in her stall and left to eat, the girls retired to the tack room to clean the tack. The smell of fresh leather filled the air and the gentle breeze hissed through the gap of the door.

"How is your father, by the way? We've been worried," Angelica broke the silence.

Josie looked up from the bucket of warm water she had ducked Dot's bridle in, "oh, he's doing well. Turns out the stress over the past few months had just built up and during that workout he lost consciousness and fell from the saddle. Chest pains and a racing heart panicked him a bit, which contributed towards it too, I guess," she shrugged.

Angelica smiled with relief to hear that he was alright. "So, it had nothing to do with Varra?"

"Nope, nothing to do with her as it happens," Josie shook her head. "She made that noise as she was startled to see dad's body leave the saddle; it was so sudden and unexpected. Good thing she did, too, the boys would probably never had got to him until later that evening."

"Happy to hear that, then," Angelica smiled, hanging up a now polished saddle onto the rack. "And you're doing okay?"

Josie giggled, "Oh yeah, I'm fine now that it's all calmed down a bit!"
