Born into a middle-class family that owned a small plantation, Heather was raised as a young woman who was expected to marry into money. However, her family could not afford to have many farm hands so she was also tasked with helping out on the farm. This meant that her time would be split between learning things a lady was expected to know and planting crops and helping to cook meals. Suitors started to come by at the age of sixteen, seeking the family's only daughter's hand in marriage. However, Heather had already set her sights on a man of much poorer standing. He had been charismatic and she was instantly charmed. When she had asked her parents if she could marry the man, they had been furious. As their daughter they expected her marriage to gift them with a higher social standing, extra connections or even just a bit more cash. They forbade her from marrying this man she was convinced she loved dearly and that he loved her back. It was this thought that convinced her to elope with him at the age of twenty when he begged her to. At the time she was swept away with his charm and sweet words, she saw no reason to doubt him. Of course, the elopement was a scandal and her furious father and mother eventually found them. The newly wedded couple were convinced that her father would forgive them and send her on her way with a sizable dowry. Instead he disowned her publicly, making the young couple the joke of their town. That’s when her marriage took a turn for the worse. Now disowned and without a dowry, her new husband became cold and dismissive, spending most evenings drinking before coming home and verbally lashing out at her. She became trapped in a suffocating home she had foolishly walked into with nowhere else to go. Then at twenty-two the man finally kicked her out, leaving her on the street. With no home and no money, Heather had very few options to survive, making do with helping with work in caravans and running when things seemed like they were taking a turn for the worse. She helped on farms which she discovered a passion for and became determined to have one of her own. She dreamed of having orchards spanning as far as the eye could see, trees bursting with fruit. But, of course, to do that she would need money and she barely had enough to feed herself. So when she saw the flyer advertising an honest pay for anyone willing to work, Heather did not hesitate in taking it. Suspicious rumours be damned.

Heather was brought up to be kind and polite, for the most part she is. She can talk pleasantly with anyone, no matter what their social standing. However, she will not take any sort of crap and is very quick to defend herself if she feels she has been wronged. While she is outwardly polite, she is very cautious of new people and it takes time for her to genuinely warm up to others. She keeps mostly to herself and will not talk about herself unless prompted. She is rather independent and would rather rely on her own abilities than try to ask others for help. She is calm and collected and it takes a lot to get down about things. She is very rational and will think up an easy and logical explanation for anything and everything. She is far from superstitious and won't believe things until she sees them with her own eyes.
