Description This is my Ansco Viking 4.5 folding camera, I actually don't know a lot about this one. On the inside of it, it states that it was made for Ansco by Agfa Camera Werk in Munchen US Zoned Germany. I assume that means it was made post WWII.. other then that I don't know a whole lot about it. Oh and tonight my husband finally got the back open and um yea there was film still inside!!! So we are going to check about getting it developed

If you like this, then you should check out the rest of my old camera collection [link]

This looks very much like my old camera but, unfortunately, no picture . The shutter release button, the cable release location, the tab on the bottom to support the camera...

However, mine was a Kodak. The ribbed casing here is very different and I'm sure I recall a greater selection in shutter speed offerings. Mine also had 1/125 instead of 1/100 and a "T" setting rather than the "B".

I've imagined that my dad, as a Navy photographer, brought the camera home with him from the war. My dad, though, was not stationed overseas. After the war, there was a huge amount of surplus equipment available which the military was anxious to dispose of.

Assuming Kodak made their similar camera prior to 1945, and assuming the Ansco was made afterwards, my guess is this is a knockoff of the Kodak. More research would need to done on the dating before any definitive conclusion could be made.

If the film is B+W, you should be able to get something from the negatives. You might contact Kodak directly about the processing. After all, they claim that if George Mallory's camera - lost on Mt. Everest since 1924 - were ever found, the film might still be viable for processing assuming the camera, itself, was still intact.

Ansco actually has a very interesting history to it, and has been around since 1902. I still haven't found a lot about this camera yet, but I do know for sure it was made after WWII because during the war the company was actually renamed General Aniline & Film due to its association with Germany & then went back to Ansco after the war ended As for the film, I don't think they will be able to get anything from it, but I am going to try!
