Kind of like the equivalent of a shiny pokΓ©mon, eh? Really beautiful, I love how you captured it in all its intricate, white-speckled glory, fantastic!Β

It's a rare mutation, like albinism. Lots of green grasshoppers and katydids sometimes turn up pink, I've seen some outlandish day-glo, photoshopped-looking examples but they're definitely real. Amazing find and great shot!

Go over to bugguide.net, and look up pink katydid... you will see some startling examples. A couple were accidentally enhanced, but the poster put up an un-enhanced one after and it's still eye-meltingly pink. Roundheaded katydids (Amblycorypha insolita) seem to have some of the best mutant colors, probably because the whole insect is normally a solid, vivid green, so when the color is different it's still one solid, vivid color. The mutation also comes in purple, red, orange or yellow sometimes. There are some shots of bubble-gum pink grasshoppers there as well.

It's too bad the site has only american insects, I bet your shots would knock their socks off!

correcting myself: its actually a. floridana that turns up funny colors most often, but all the roundheads can. Some of them will growl or bark when you pick them up, too, they're funny insects!

Another pink grasshopper? Those mutants are really weird but fascinating.

is the pink just a mutation or just a rare form of how they normally are? That's stunning too, what a strange creature!

I'm not an expert, but I think it's just a normal variation.
