That looks way too small to have nuclear engines.

Google "Pewee NTR engine" sometime. It was a solid-core NTR that only weighed about three tonnes, including the shadow shield, and had a thrust-to-weight ratio of 3.5. That's enough for many smaller bodies in a star system. Combine that with an afterburning LANTR style hybrid rocket and you have and excellent description of the rocket supposed to be in this ship. It's quite realistic near-future tech.
