Description
Let us build a monument to us,to this day we made sing us songs,
and pour us cups of shining sun,
erect it high and strange in this city
and paint our eyelids golden
so that only we can stand to
look into each other's eyes.
Let us build ourselves up that tall,
and rise above the rest,
their questions unheard,
their names forgotten,
and we will be silver clouds
and gilded tongues,
things unspoken and untouched
except by ourselves and each other.
And we will not remember
the people who tried to break us down,
for we will be mountains in this urban landscape,
we will be blankets muffling their
hate filled cries,
and so they will only be able to look up
and say, "they were like us once,"
and wonder why they still are
but we are monuments.
