The oldest and arguably the most powerful mutant in the X-Men universe. Apocalypse is considered by most to be the first among what would be known as Homo-Superior. A ruthless tyrant and warrior, this warmonger has been known to subjugate various peoples making them worship him as a God, while instigating wars among them to determain who was the "fittest" to survive. This ideology of Survival of the fittest was taught to him by Bale, leader of a group of desert nomads after the baby mutant was found in the desert seemingly left to die. Before his death Bale informed his adopted son whom he named En Sabah Nur, of alien technology in a cave. Centuries later the renamed Apocalypse awoke in the 1800s after a sleep of suspended animation, where he encountered Nathaniel Essex a scientist who thought that Apocalypse was the first in the next stage of human evolution. Thus Apocalypse used the alien technology which he had used previously to enhance himself to enhance Essex; thus creating the icy Mr. Sinister.
