The newest of my OCs from the 90s animated series Gargoyles; Megalith is indeed a tragic figure. He was once the leader of a clan that called the city of Berlin in Germany their home. For centuries they lived in relative peace besides the occasional turf wars with the Parisian Clan their bitter rivals. In a bid to settle their differences once and for all the Parisian clan leader Granite decided to launch a sneak attack against their German enemies. Thus a blood purge ensued which saw every member of Megalith's clan including Obsidia, the love of his life exterminated. Megalith was only spared by Granite himself to live with the burden and shame of being too weak to protect those closest to him, for lacking the hardness of heart to what was necessary. The Parisians took flight upon the winds, leaving a badly injured and broken Megalith to ponder his adversary's words as he slowly slipped into stone sleep with the oncoming dawn. Five centuries later the stone slumbering Megalith was transported out of Berlin after the fall of the Third Reich having been perched upon the tower of a badly damaged SS castle. He was sent first to an auction firm warehouse in Washington DC, and then finally after decades finding a permanent home in the Newark Museum of Modern Art. There in the year 1996 he emerged from stone sleep fully rejuvenated and thirsting for revenge against the Parisian Clan; however he did not recognize his surroundings. His confusion only served to heighten his anger and at that moment his golden eyes locked onto those of two criminals who were looking to rob the museum's safe and anything else of value. In terror the two crooks fled but were easily overtaken by the Gargoyle's speed. His rage nearly palpable Megalith mistakenly used his full strength and killed both of the criminals in cold blood. His anger slowly abating with the blood lust, he left the building quickly as he heard sirens and no sooner had he escaped when police and reporters flooded the museum grounds. As he observed the humans and the flashing lights of the squad cars and press vehicles he felt a gulp in his throat and a racing in his chest. There she was, his Obsidia reborn as a human being. Every nuance of his being wanted to go to her but he knew he dared not. Humans were after all extremely prejudiced and intolerant creatures. But he knew the some day, some how,he would be reunited with the one he loved. But until that day; he would be her protector from any and all who would seek to harm her. At last he had the chance to prove Granite's words false.
