When I found out that Utena's seiyuu, Kawakami Tomoko, had passed away on June 9th, I was completely devastated and beside myself.
i'm tearing up right now thinking about it
So, I holed myself up for all these passed two months trying to finish a piece of work that felt like Tomoko was still with us and "Utena" never went anywhere. She was the reason I wanted to become a voice actress and Utena made me into a stronger person by believing in what I could with no regrets.
I still watch the movie every once in awhile and anime series as of late. I wanted to create something that signified that no matter what, she's still with us:
as Tomoko and as Utena, our prince.

Daw, thank you, lovely!!! Oh, it's such a good series. It was done in 1997 and it's VERY shoujo, magical girl, but there's a lot of twists and turns. Plus, the music is AWESOME. You're friend is right: you need to watch it.

I never watched Utena so I can't say I personally feel a very big loss. It's amazing that she could leave such an impression on people, though. I've seen others mention her before, saying she was perfect, basically. Again, I don't know about that, but since so many people liked her, I'm sure there's truth to it.
Anyway, I think you can rest easy after drawing this. It looks like you put your heart into it and it is very well done, I think. You did good and you should feel proud of it.

Utena pretty much made me believe that I could be a strong girl. I never regretted watching it nor listening to Tomoko give life to Utena. I read the manga before the anime, so, it makes it special whenever I hear her. *lol* Her voice acting was SO strong and like I said, she's an inspiration for me to be a voice-actress.

I see. There are some voice actors who do quite stand out, I agree. I'm sure she did as well if you liked her so much.

I can take criticism well. I know some things are off, but I had to post it. Didn't care. Fwahaha. There are few American voice actors who stand out too for me, but Tomoko was one of kind. Kotono Mitsuishi (that's Sailor Moon) is the QUEEN of Japanese VA's. God, if I could meet her.
Have you ever seen Utena before??? If not, DO IT. If so, kick ass. :3

As for voice actors, I have never watched Sailor Moon in japanese either, so shit I have no idea what you're talking about. Oh well, I'll believe you if you say she's amazing too.
I think I saw one episode of Utena a while back. Didn't really work for me, but I might give it a shot again. I just have a lot of other animes on my plate at the moment.

Sailor Moon in Japanese is SO much better than in English. I cringe every time I think about it. I'm doing it now. uughhhh...
Whenever you get a chance, try them both out.
I found one AWHILE ago called "Kaledio Star". If you are ever upset or just sad, that anime can cheer you up in a HEART BEAT.

Sailor Moon really isn't my taste to begin with so I think I'd rather pass on that one. I believe you about the japanese voices being better, though. I always found the original voices to be better, regardless of which country the product came from. Here we have swedish dubs as well, and they can be really awful. So yeah.
Oh, and I might check that anime out some day. I'll add it to my list.
