Not really sure about this beautiful bird. My guess would be that it's a heron of some type. Couldn't find one that looks like this in my bird book...and it was a bit on the smallish side for what I'm used to seeing.Full view, please...

With that beak, it could easily be a heron or wader of some sort.

I'd say that its definitely a green heron. I was surprised last year to see one hanging around our local pond. We usually only get ducks & gulls.

im fairly positive its a green heron... they are usually that brownish color with some small patches of greenish tinge

It looks like the Little Blue Heron in my bird book. great shot BTW very clear and the feathers well articulated.
