I think a more clear separation between foreground and midground would help to capture the space and depth better. Thinking something like that: The guy, the 1st vegetation next to the sword and the big stone behind him would be foreground. Also the vegetation is all very similar color, making it look a bit unnatural. The sword and shield could maybe use some harder edges.
I like the painting, the marine guy with rifle you started the painting with would be even more interesting concept I think (in some desolate land). Keep it up and good luck with your art!

Thanks for pointing them out! I knew there was wrong but couldn't tell what. I'll try to fix them out.
Yeah I think my initial idea was more interesting but I was hesitant to pursue it so I just went to the classic fantasy.
