Description Hungarian violinist, Sandor Feher, was undoubtedly a first-rate solo violinist and a very experienced musician and entertainer.

He was serving as a staff musician aboard the cruise ship, Costa Concordia, when it ran aground on January 13th, 2012. In the ensuing pandemonium, it is said that Sandor aided passengers with their life jackets in the minutes after the wreck. At some point, he returned to his cabin to fetch his beloved violin from his cabin below deck, at the precise point that the huge ship capsized, trapping him in a watery grave below the surface.

This work is dedicated to Sandor, taken too soon from this life.

.................

The original picture is actually a painting by English artist, Henry Harewood Robinson, 1850-1904. The painting was virtually unknown until the internet gave it a fuller appreciation. It hangs in a great house in Cornwall, where the artist spent most of his life. I tried to make it look like an illustration from an old book.

Thanks so much. I'm so glad you like it. It's quite unfrogettalbe for a violinist, especially. She is like a Muse of the instrument.

Yes, it was quite a shock to read. You can Google Sandor and read the story of the incident. There are photos of him on the web, too. He was a brawny looking bear of a man, total bald and very Hungarian looking.

Thanks so much. It was a very moving moment for me when I read the story. It was hauntingly remeniscent of the violinist in the movie, Titanic, too. In spite of the tragedy, Sandor will surely be remembered as a hero.

I completely forgot about the violinist in Titanic! I wonder if he was based off of Sandor, unless he came after. I did look up the story and it was so sad and moving.
