Description
made for Fresian Club on HL
to be used in Fresian Club on HL for the august term

YAY OMG i won fresian club for august!

*cough cough*. right, back to where i was. this one was made for Fresian club, so, ignore the corny name, i couldn't think of anything haha. obviously i took off the text and boxes and whatever to put up here.

i wanted it to obviously have a fresian in it, and wanted the color theme to be quite dark, but not in a freaky way, more in a peaceful sort of way, you know? anyhoos, i LOVED the horse i found, just had to use him. thanks to all stock providers!

and, yes, this WILL be going up for bid on HL once the august term is over.

45 layers? O.O! And I really like this!

Though maybe I could suggest a few things?
1. I... don't exactly understand the thin whitish line around the horse...? Haha I know all of your manips have them, but... I don't quite get why It seems to make the face look like there's more light on it than there should be, which looks a bit odd...
2. The right front leg should enter the water slightly higher, since it's a bit farther away than the left front leg. Though not much
3. Light rays... a tad unrealistic. I would recommend creating a little hole in the clouds that the light rays would be coming through, if you know how to do that.
4. The light rays seem to stop right when they hit the horse, but if this were an actual scene, a few rays would continue until they hit the water.

Aaaand... other than that, this is fabulous! And I never thought I would find myself saying this, but the credits are lovely! Very small, insignificant, and out of the way, but easy to find and read if you're looking for them, Perfect!

Haha the lilypads are nice too, though the one closest to the bottom seems a bit pasted in. You might want to darken it a little, and add a very small series of ripples around it.
Aack, sorry about the ΓΌber long comment/critique Though it could be much, much longer, so be glad!

erraticstudios In reply to Sky-of-Silver [2010-08-07 01:56:50 +0000 UTC]

haha, thanks.
the white line is an outline, most equine manipulators do them, it's just another manipuation trend that everyone goes through, haha!

yeah, i probably should've actually made a sun for the rays to come from, haha i suppose i was a bit rushed for time, so i must have forgot.

thanks so much! haha, yeah, i'm not the best at lilypad-painting !

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sky-of-Silver In reply to erraticstudios [2010-08-07 13:04:40 +0000 UTC]

no problem!
and I see... how exactly would one do a white line? do you just zoom in a hand-draw it around the horse? or is there some super-spesh photoshop tool for that?

oh, true, sun rays to tend to come from the sun xP though still, it's better than anything I could ever dream of doing!

I've never tried much to paint anything besides manes/tails, eyes, and grass, so i rather think of you as a hero for even attempting to do lilypads

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

erraticstudios In reply to Sky-of-Silver [2010-08-07 23:06:09 +0000 UTC]

well, i just zoom in quite a bit, take a white 2px brush on 100% opacity an hardness, and basically just manually go around the horse. i do the outline on a new layer as well. i then come back with an eraser, on 20% opacity and 70% hardness, and gradually erase some of the outline. this is just to ensure that the outline isn't on the entire horse, only on some parts of the horse (if the outline was to be left around the entire horse without erasing any, it would look like the horse was glowing, haha ).

haha, awh, thanks!
i tried a lot of painting in this one, i did a bit of re-painting over the horse, to try and get into some more digital art techniques, haha.

Sky-of-Silver In reply to erraticstudios [2010-08-08 13:04:42 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yes. I may try that some time though currently i'm working on drawing manes and tails (finally) though for the moment, i can only draw dark brown, palomino, and black hair. though hey, it's better than before!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

erraticstudios In reply to Sky-of-Silver [2010-08-08 22:25:26 +0000 UTC]

haha, good idea! i know what you mean, haha, about the colors. I'm probably the best with dark manes, and the worst with light manes.

Me + Attempting to paint a grey mane = FAIL.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sky-of-Silver In reply to erraticstudios [2010-08-08 22:57:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeahup... so far I think palomino tails are the hardest and black tails are the easiest (though tails HAVE become my new favorite part of manipulations )

Hopefully I'll be able to make them a bit more realistic once i get a tablet.
the manip i asked you to critique is my first try at painting a tail-I didn't bother painting a mane; i figured it's best to just work on tails first

haha, yeah, i know what you mean.
prices range so much - mine was about $100, but i've seen some for over $2000.
i recieved mine as a gift when i was in hospital a fair while ago.

Sky-of-Silver In reply to erraticstudios [2010-08-10 00:29:00 +0000 UTC]

oooooooh wow. I've heard there are some pretty nice ones, Wacom Bamboo tablets, for $75-$100. or at least my mom found some online for a pretty low amount

Haha maybe i should go to the hospital to get a tablet xD
yes, I'm kidding

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

erraticstudios In reply to Sky-of-Silver [2010-08-10 01:27:51 +0000 UTC]

yeah, there's some great cheap ones out there. i'd definantlyyy only get Wacom. i mean, there's other brands of course, but Wacom is the most famous, they're known around the world for their graphics tablets.

hahaa!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sky-of-Silver In reply to erraticstudios [2010-08-10 16:26:30 +0000 UTC]

yeahhhh... do you know how much a basic-ish Wacom tablet with pen pressure/a pen would cost?

hahahaaaa yeh I know

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

erraticstudios In reply to Sky-of-Silver [2010-08-10 22:44:44 +0000 UTC]

hmm, for a basic pen tablet, about $80-$100, depending on which one you're looking at.
you can also pay more if you're looking for a pen & touch tablet, which i have. A pen and touch tablet allows you to use both the pen and your finger on the tablet. I don't really use the touch feature, only the tablet pen, but it's always a good thing to have, i suppose.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sky-of-Silver In reply to erraticstudios [2010-08-11 01:31:47 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... actually, that's incredibly reasonable for such a useful piece of software
i think i'd stick with just the pen tablet, since I don't really see much need for the touch feature...?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

erraticstudios In reply to Sky-of-Silver [2010-08-11 03:47:46 +0000 UTC]

it is, yeah.
haha, i know what you mean. the touch feature is good if you're interested in things like digital paintings/digital sketching, where it can be handy. i only use mine if i've lost the pen, bwahaha.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sky-of-Silver In reply to erraticstudios [2010-08-11 12:09:48 +0000 UTC]

bwahaha that sounds exactly what I would do-lose the pen xP though i might take up digital painting some time soon-how exactly would you benefit from the touch feature if you were doing digital painting?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

erraticstudios In reply to Sky-of-Silver [2010-08-11 22:43:39 +0000 UTC]

haha! yeah, i'm always loosing it, even though i should be putting it back in the pen-holder on the tablet.

i suppose the touch feature allows you to, in a nutshell, paint with your fingertips, pretty much. it's just an option if you find it better than the pen, everyone is different. i prefer the pen as i believe it's more precise, but some prefer the touch as they believe it feels more natural. it's just up to the user.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sky-of-Silver In reply to erraticstudios [2010-08-12 00:58:26 +0000 UTC]

bwahaha I'm always losing things too xP
hm... I think the pen is a bit more suited to what I do, as i have a bit more control with a pen/paintbrush than with my fingers (though I don't truly know, since i've never tried writing with my fingertips)
plus I do a lot of pencil drawings of horses, so I think the pen would feel a bit more natural

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

erraticstudios In reply to Sky-of-Silver [2010-08-12 05:40:57 +0000 UTC]

ahh, yeah, the pen would probably be better for you, in that case.
