Ah yes, In retrospect, this one belongs on a faded shirt from the 70s.
I'd wear it.

well I play an instrument for about five years..... ( tuba, bass trombone ) .... but that was quite some time ago. At least I can read rhythms. but brasswinds to strings is a totally different ball game.

well i was born a percussionist, ive been studying percussion for about twelve years, but there is a huge similarity between an bass instrument (tuba included) and bass guitar and percussion. frankly if you have the will power, anyone can learn anything, but since you played previously you have a better background, i was raised in a musical family both parents were professional musicians, moving to teaching and distribution, so i have the life laid before me, but i have no doubt that anyone interested in art (especially of your caliber) could learn music.

wow thats pretty awesome man.... you were nurtured in the arts. I absolutely positively love bass so I think I'm up for the challenge. playing bass has to probably be one of the coolest things alive.
but since I'm a totally a novice at this, what brand do you think I should go with?...... also should I start with 4, 5, or 6 string? also books....... whats a good one to start with?
thanks for your help.

he he..... as far as basses go, your best bet is to find a fender four string squire jazz bass.... their cheap, like this one... [link] you can easily find one at a guitar center or other music store for a low price. as far as books go, the optimal choice would be to learn from a qualified teacher, the bass for me is a tertiary instrument at best, and thus i would not put myself in the position of teaching. local music stores often offer private lessons, for a price, but will sometimes offer a few free ones with the purchasing of a new bass.
Amplifiers are a whole new beast, if you can ,find a package deal, for you first setup you will be all ready to go, it may even come with a book, ask the person who helps you with you purchase to recommend a book if you are not going with private, or group lessons. otherwise make sure that you get a four string... more strings come with more experince.. .lol

man...... thanks a lot. I appreciate it. I'll definitely let you know if anything happens in the future. whenever I get a bass, I'll make a new design about it dedicated to you guidance. lol I'll probably try to just use music and books as a reference to try and wrap my brain around the concept first. then get some lessons later since it costs time and money.
thanks again....
oh yeah.... one more thing..... I need good bass players to listen too.... who do you recommend? that way as I design, I seek inspiration from other avenues at the same time.

humzzzzz well i use pandora.com for most of my music... but the best bass players to listen to are Jaco pastorious,(best bassist of all time, played with weather report) Michal manring, um paul McCartney did a lot for modern bass, when it comes to bass im really into experimental jazz, (guitar=blues percussion=deathmetal and funk weird i know) so you may not enjoy all of the bass players i like,,,,, but mark eagan, john patitucci Stanley clarke
victor Wooten,,, thats about it..... but the are all great, and they all have a distinct sound if your more of a rocker, listen to the bass player from mudvayne and the bassist from tool, they're good as far as rock bassists go... otherwise, its my pleasure to help, i love when others can learn to express themselve

sweet man thanks. I know for a fact that I'm going to be into funk and jazz. soul music is kinda my thing...... but I love to get technical...... so whomever I can listen to that will push me to my limits is pretty much what I'm going to strive for. I'm not gonna say that I have dreams of playing in some sort of band ( well at least not in the near future ) however I don't want to be some average joe on the bass either. All and all this is going to be an interesting journey, and I'm glad to have someone show me the way.
I remember one of my co-workers showing a place to get this value pack or whatever that consists of the bass, amp, and speaker. I was going to run around like $400.00 or something like that.
I'll keep you posted.
thanks again man, even though I'm not to sure when I'll actually be able to own one.......I have to admit that this is kind of exciting!

well i feel the same way about music. if you want to hear a great band for any instrument, listen to dream theater. Thats the "to the limit" type of music... that value pack sounds good, thats pretymuch what i would buy if i were starting out... O, by the way, i was wondering, where exactly, do you hail from. I come from Connecticut in the good old USofA, and i was wondering how the time zone thing is working... what ever thx for keeping the music alive...
