So he did die in the arms of the woman he loves, it just wasn't Brienne.

i'm not sure but I think Jaime falls on his knees when he saw the red keep burn, probably because it implies that Cersei was engulfed by Drogon's breath.

Well he got less and less loyal towards her with the series carrying on as he noticed how cruel she was but still he would be devastated of her death.
But why would Drogon attack the keep while they are overrun by the undead army?

distancing yourself from someone, even if they are toxic, does not mean you stop loving that person. All that history will not die away and go into oblivion in a few days/weeks.
and what if the red keep was also overrun by the undead? I'm just speculating because there's no trace of Jamie being fatally wounded (no even blood) and the only thing I can see is Drogo burning the throne hall... and jaime looking in that direction.

still it would be way more efficient to burn down the undead in the open field because a castle normally is quite fire resistant.
He could kill way more undead by just breathing fire at those running towards Jaime and Brienne.
The only reason to attack the throne hall would be if daenerys told him to, which would be a stupid descision since they should primarely focus on the undead.
She would risk letting the undead army grow even further just to destroy the throne hall.
Sure Jaime could fall to his knees because of Cercei, but that brings up the question why drogon even is there instead of burning down the armies of the undead.
So we replaced one mysteria with another. xD

and burning down his mother's friends in the process? Drogon is smart and can discern between friends and enemies but a flamethrower of that size would not have the precision of a surgeon, let alone the heat. Look at the season 5's final, a yonger drogon killed a few unsullied trying to take down the sons of the arpy. Besides dragonbreath of a fully grown Dragon can melt the stone (remember harrenhall and Balerion?) and burning castles down to the ground with dragons seems to be standard procedures among the Targaryens. open field or a castle there seems to be no difference, everything burns.

Well the undead army is so large that there would definately be some place where he could attack more effectively ... and the people of westeros wont be happy about another wrecked castle

excluding the fact that most kingdoms are in open rebellion against the crown, i think the people in westeros will give a crap about a castle being destroyed if they are surrounded by undeads. beside, if you rememenber the season 2, Danny has a vision about the red keep destroyed probably by fire. as in the book, those seems to be prophecies. also Bran has a vision about a Dragon reaching King's landing. This scene would fit in those visions from the show even it there is no clear reason why Drogon would burn the RK or why Jaime is falling on his knees.

Of course the scene would fit well in the series, Im just a very logical person. I've made maybe 3 irrational descisions in the past 10 years that I now regret and that werent the best option thats why I hate when authors or directors make irrational descisions or mistakes.
Thats also why I stopped watching the Walking Dead. So many stupid descisions, no wonder they all die at some point ...

This is just my opinion, but the army of the wights is closed to them. I don’t think I’ve ever een them firing a single arrow, so my guess is someone threw a small axe at Jaime.

Also think of the sword he’s holding, Widow’s Wail. While technically not a widow of Jaime it could refer to Brienne. Cersei is Robert’s widow though.
