Description +warning, this might take a while to download, when I said high-res, I wasn't really kidding.... the .zip is 57MB O_o;;; +

the patterns are nearly seamless, which means that they can repeat and repeat and repeat and you won't see an edge.

the pngs can be used for making the screentone in other programs, or for making new screentones.

this is a pattern I made for use on my own comics, it is drawn from scratch by me, which is why it's kindof crappy (OTL) It's far from perfect, but I could not find a water pattern like this anywhere, so I post this one. (now that I go back and look again, I think there are others..... darn where were they when I needed them!)

you can use it for anything you want, from digital manga to art works. you don't even have to credit me, or fav this, cause I'll get annoyed if it becomes more popular than my real art works >_>;;;

-- TIPS FOR USE --

when applying the pat. version, fill in the area you want screentoned with white/grey/whatever first, then add the desired pattern in the layer settings. instant screentone!

try not to change the sizes too much on the dot screentones (like turning it down to 10%) because this can cause a lot of distortion, like in the preview picture.

for people who prefer to do screentones the copy/paste into way, I provided gradients/screentone sheets that you can use for this there aren't as many variations of them.

you can use the flat (unscreentoned) ones in the png pack to make your own screentones, if you need a variation I didn't make (larger/smaller/lighter/darker/lines/whatever) ! just copy it to a new canvas, and change it to bitmap via image ==> mode on the photoshop menu. after you click "bitmap", a menu will pop up that will allow you to change it to a black and white 'screentone'. you may have to change it to 'greyscale' first if it isn't.

there are also a couple ways to make your own gradients- the first is to use the layer gradient feature on the screentone itself. on the layer you have the screentone on, open the layer menu, check the 'gradient' box, and in the gradient tab set the blend mode to either "color burn" or "color dodge". warning, this doesn't work on the dot screentones unless they're under 100% size.

the other is to take one of the flat screentones, apply it to a large canvas so it repeats several times, turn on the gradient on color burn/color dodge, and the bitmap it.

if you set one of the B/W screentones' blend mode to "screen" or "multiply" on top of a grey color, you will get either grey dots or darker highlights. this is useful when making lighter/darker colors, and by painting lighter tones of grey on the grey color, highlights can be made on the screentone.

the screentone is normally straight from above, but you can make it extending into the distance (useful for underwater scenes!) on a canvas twice to three times as large as the area you want it in (or just very large okay XD), set the desired screentone so that it repeats many times. then copy the layer. select the original layer and the copied layer and merge them. Then select the entire canvas, and copy it. pull up the document you want to put it in, select the area you want it in, and hit "paste into" (in the 'edit' menu.) then use transform-->distort (be careful you have not selected the layer mask though.)

you can make shafts of light by erasing thin slanting lines down from parts of the white ripples (though I usually paint these in white on a new layer so I can erase them if I mess up.)

it can be used in color, too! use the black and white flat screentone and set it to "screen", and you'll get nice white ripple lines on whatever color you set it on.

though these were mostly tips for photoshop, I hoped some of them helped~ ^^

Sole aim is furthering of artistic community. If I charged money or made restrictive regulations on them it would really throw a wrench in that XDDDDDD

Do you have any idea if that sort of pattern for water has a name? xD
So that I can look up several ref pictures and stuff to learn how to draw it (or you could provide me with tips/examples if you could)
