Ah, I made the biggest mistake an artist could make...I went to art school. Over a year later I'm still trying to get my love of art back after they squashed it unmercifully. So it's really hard for me to put pencil to paper these days.

Damn. I'm sorry to hear that. D8 I really hope you'll get it back! What was it about art that you used to love? What did you draw before the school? With what kind of mood or why? What inspired you before the school? Who were your favorite artists? You don't have to answer to me, but I dunno, maybe you could ponder those a bit, though you might already have a thousand times. :'D
I've been feeling a bit art blockish lately but today I looked at some Yoshitaka Amano's art for the first time in a long time and remembered my love for beautiful lines and shapes and colors and how my art should be done with that love for those things instead of doing something pretty much purely technical, it just doesn't work otherwise.

I like aesthetic things...prettiness, flowing lines, interesting characters, details, etc, hehe. Since I went to a commercial art school, all they really wanted to teach me was how to copy other people's art styles so I could get a job in a studio somewhere being somebody's lackey (thus increasing their after-graduation job placement percentages). All that stuff is being done in Korea anyway so they were teaching people useless skills. I'm sure I'll get it back someday. In the meantime, I can look at pretty art like yours. ^_^

Ugh.
Some years back I would have wanted to get into a school where they would have taught me to draw and paint things well and "correctly". I don't know if I would have lasted even there. (I went to an art school but quit.) And these days I don't want to go to any kind of art school, I don't want anyone to tell me what I draw, when and with what. Or how I should draw something. x__x
This "Ten free sketches"-thing kinda defies that, but I dunno, I chose to do this and I have pretty free hands with them and no deadlines.
Yeah, you quite likely will get it back one day.

No worries. ^_^ Frankly I'm surprised that you've talked to me this much xD I have a degree now, which is all well and good, but it doesn't seem to help in getting me a job. Oh well. I blame the economy.

That sucks. D: But yeah, the economy.. And I've got the picture that making a career doing art would be hard even if the economy wouldn't be what it is now. :\ I hope you're getting by okay anyway, especially with a baby on the way.

Taidekujalta sut ainaki löytäis helposti. :3 Mut sovitaan jotain sit ku tiedetään jostain tarkemmin jotain, tuu vaikka uudestaan tökkimään lähempänä jotain tapahtumaa. : )
