Description My first large knitted project, Tom Baker's scarf from Doctor Who. It's about 12 feet long and knitted from worsted weight cotton yarn. It took me approximately 20 days to knit, using a one pound cone of white, and two skeins of red. A few of the stripes have been shortened by one or two inches to make the length a little more wearable. As it is, I can loop it around my neck twice normally or once very loosely and still have the ends just about trail the ground! I dyed all the colors myself except for the red, (I was trying to be economical by dyeing my own colors, but I was afraid of getting pink!) with procion mx dyes. If I do it again I'll have to be a little more careful with the colors, these aren't quite true to the original and they're far too saturated, especially the green and grey, but I think they fit together well enough.

That's so cool! how did you get the sidesΒ so straight? whenever I do a garter stitch, the edge looks almost frilly >.<

Thanks!

The last stitch of each row in this scarf is slipped, which makes for a neater edge. If you've already done that and your edges still look odd, perhaps it could have something to do with your tension? I'm no knitting expert, but most of the problems I've run into were because my tension was inconsistent.

AWESOME!!!!!!! I'm starting mine right now Absolutely none of my colours are correct (wrong shades of each colour) but as long as they're close enough I'm happy That's rather cool that you dyed your own yarn too.

Thanks! Dyeing my own yarn was about the only way I could do it, without spending a lot of money, so I'm very pleased the colors turned out at least as good as it did. I think as long as the colors are a decently close approximation, and the scarf is long enough, people will know what it is. Even the "official" merchandise scarf doesn't have accurate colors!

Haha. I laughed when I saw the official scarf didn't have exact shades. I finally had a chance to knit mine again

It wasn't hard to knit, just time consuming! There is a website link in artist comments section that has the pattern.

Haha, yes it is. XD I can"t imagine how many times the real one must have been tripped over while they were filming, in most of the fourth doctor's episodes the scarf was much longer than this one!
