Description added a Version for Iberian breeds!

This is my newest invention - the Skill System.
It's mainly created for Sport Horse breeds, another one for Race Horses will follow. It can of course be used for other breeds, too.

Iberian/Baroque version

Template Pack - free to use:

Why you should use the Skill System
It gives your horse more personality - it's not only a coat color design anymore.
Other players have a quick summary of your horses skills, what helps them to pick the right breeding partner for their horses.
uniform design - the standardised skill bar shows the same features, so it's easier to compare the horses
No "bad" horses - I thought a long time about which features I want to use in the skill bar, because I wanted to avoid bad attributes - no one likes to breed with horses that have flaws or are bad in the disciplines.
That's why I used rather value-free converse characteristics.
More realism - when creating a horse, many people don't think about coherent features. For example, it's very unlikely that a horse has enormous stamina and is extremely fast at the same time - now the player has to decide if the horse is more endurant or fast, but it can't be perfect in both anymore. That's way more authentic.
That also means - no 'Mary Sues'. No more of those boring perfect-in-everything-horses. For example, the horse can be either perfect in one discipline (expert in dressage, for example), or good in all three disciplines (when the shpere is placed in the middle of the triangle). The skills I chose always have benefits and misfits - if you take a high sensitivity for the riders aids, the horse will be a bit hyperactive and nervous, too.

The skill system is made just for fun. It is not planned to affect Competitions or anything. It's there to give the horses more depth and personality, and it makes it easier to roleplay with them.

You can download the template here, if you want to use the system, too.

I saw in the comment section below that you did not mind us editing this to our own stables' needs (if you changed your mind about that, please let me know and I'll take it down). I made an endurance-type version here: Skills System Endurance

Thank you so much for creating this system, it's so nice!

Do you mind if I use this for my breed? I'd show it in a journal and of course link back here.

I've seen this in use in HARPG and thought it was a wonderful idea, but couldn't seem to find your original writeups and downloads.  So glad I found it at last.

My stables, Harusame Meadows, specializes in breeding horses for "Adventurers", that being so, we look for animals that are fit companions for people who do fun activities like slay monsters or take on the Forces of Darkness   With your permission and proper credits, I'd like to tweak your design to reflect some of the traits our stable feels are desirable.

Of course, step one is to get your cool templates downloaded.

Thank you so much for sharing these, I've been a D&D Game Master for years and I always appreciate a well-thought-out system for tracking character skills and talents.

I love this n_n so useful for reference sheets! Would there be a triangle for western riding as well? (just an idea n_n)

I have Paint Tool SAI, but I cannot find the file I downloaded and I'm not sure if this will work? I don't want to seem narrow minded, I'm just a bit confused.

This is wonderful! I am so glad I finally found the original piece. I have seen this all over but have not been able to find the person who came up with it.
Before I ask my question, I want to send a quick thank you your way for making this available to the public. Thank you.
Ok, so, I was wondering if you would mind if I used your idea to make a skill system for western horses? I really wanted to use this but almost all of my horses are western.

You have to download one of the files I linked to in the artists comments. They contain two .png files (or a psd file with several layers).

Import the "skill bar" and the "sphere" file as new layers into your document, then copy the sphere as often you need it, and then move the spheres manually with the arrows on you keyboard or by holding STRG and clicking on them, then moving the mouse.
