I had made this to standardize the maps I made on the wikipedia world base maps with the worlda maps, such as these showing the situation before W.W.3 and after and this one before the 'collapse '; and then this one showing the end of the French State and now here's the pre-world war 3 one updated to the worlda base (if I continue to keep such a war in the TL). While the worlda maps have less space for little details, no doubt about it, I think I just wanted the maps to align more, these are easier to pump out, (and I think I wanted to make a gif of them?). Going to go through the gallery and start adding tags to the titles to align each to their respective project. 'PR' here stands for 'Planetary Romance'.

I was displeased with my prior map about a Pre-Sundering Earth. So, I made this one.

The point of divergence is still around say, 1848. From there, Lincoln avoids assassination and the north forcibly reconstructs the south (and the US is more malleable to change), the French lose the Prussian War and then the Great War, and turn to 'National Revival' and win the Belgian War, going up to and knocking out the British, Germany, and Russia. The USA knocks out the Japanese in the near contemporary Pacific War and prop up China. The United States, French State, Republic of China, India, and Brazil are the major players of the early cold war, from the depths of the sea with nuclear submarines, to high altitude spy planes, to the space race, but the French State collapses to colonial rebellions, arm races, and reform movements; the Russians regroup and rebound as well, rushing across Europe in the European War. (This is why there's some 'Eurasian' superstate there).

The war and trials of the war have radicalized Russia, and the 'later' Cold War is between Russia, a divided India, and the USA leading the remnants of the Entente/Allies in a NATO analogue of 'Aegis'. Brazil, which was French aligned, is bitten and ripped apart by Peru and Gran Colombia. African, Asian, and Arabian colonies, long fighting for their independence, emerge and lead the Non-Aligned movement of the world, with Pan-Arabism and Pan-African movements growing strong and they work on their own development. Russia stagnates after the war and falls to a technocratic gerontocracy before seeing a revitalization in the mid-late 80s, which is then supplemented by a militarist regime after a struggle (sounds familiar?) which then rekindles the spark of war with Aegis to ignore their domestic issues...

The state of the world is perilous. From the French in Quebec trying to form their own new state, to the ecological crises of a rapidly industrialized, fought-over, and arming world. The Allan Hills meteor found on Earth stoked the imagination of former life on Mars and a slew of missions there, the massive impact of a comet on Jupiter also stoked some support for Space travel and expansion (along with the looming fears of World War III...), the millennialist anti-government movement in the USA, the protracted war in South Africa against colonial remnants there, Afghan, Turkish, Democratic, and French resistance against Russia, smaller conflicts elsehwere. Above, Space Stations and Bases peer at each other, from Mir II to Freedom and even nascent commercial space stations....

Inspired by stuff like 1984, The New Order, World In Conflict, For All Mankind and so on. But mostly I just wanted to hash out this era of the history in my work. Might follow it up with a post-nuclear exchange chaos map.
