This is really a great piece. Here's one thing I see in this - the mantel appears to have a figure on its right edge, with the hint of a face (viewed from behind the figure) that is looking directly at the angel, which in turn appears to be looking back at this face.

I am aware this may sound strange, but the work seems almost like a photograph of somewhere sacred. The warmth of tone and the lighting are superb. Your Mother has beautiful taste.
