Description
A pale crescent looms.Hyena in the shadows,
Wolf pack in moonlight.
The crescent wanes,
The howls ring out.
Hyena notes a light,
For which it so longs.
New moon lingers,
The light goes out.
Hyena tiptoes in,
It does not belong.
The crescent waxes,
The wolves come out.
Hyena goes unseen,
Not a one belongs.
Half-circle moon,
The howlers shout.
Hyena stays silent,
It will not be long.
The gibbous waxes,
Strange laugh rings out.
Hyena in moonlight,
Where it now belongs.
The full moon looms,
Wolves look about.
Hyena gone to lurk,
But it won't be long.

I actually think there is more in this than you realize....for people not familiar with your references, there are deep comments on society and personality types, and navigating life and society.....which is great because it will speak to everyone a bit differently based on their personality and experiences....which is what great writing and art should do.

That was actually the plan, keep my specific narrative a little further into the shadows and let it adapt to interpretation for all readers. I understand most of where this one is coming from, but a) I'm nervous about showing it off, and b) I don't want to cut anybody off and go: "Hey, that's not what it means!"
I could've expressed this in plain english as a first-person story, but then it only appeals and applies to me and perhaps a handful of others, and I wouldn't really share that...
There's probably some subconscious thing I am missing, but I have a grasp of the specifics, a selection of broad themes, and the idea that alternate interpretations should as always be encouraged.

Yep. It's... I really like how the imagery worked. Not so happy with the form, but it's tricky now that I don't have rules for it.
Technically it's also a big, complicated metaphor, but I'm waiting to see if anybody starts to catch on.

Yep yep yep. Honestly, the idea of expressing this in a poem's been kicking around in the back of my head since Tempy posted his much more literal poem about us.
This way other people can identify with it, but I wanted it to definitely be a subtle little shout out to my own pack.
