Fantastic, bravo !!
Did you use Matte Painting ?
Your result with dystopia buildings is great, i tried several times with many different setting, i got bad results, especially on the window bays. Anyway i did not try them yet with IBL presets..

I followed a Tutorial in the first matte painting book from Ballistic Publishing by Chris Stoski, who worked on the Star Wars prequels. I came no were near his results (I was after a more illustrative feel anyway), but I did enjoy doing these. No, the Dystopia buildings aren't great, but there are some interesting designs, so I played around with the textures a bit and applied some of Stonemason's maps to them to help fit in with his greeble models I was using.
I didn't use IBL, just ambient occlusion, a key light for the sun and an overhead fill light if I remember correctly (it's been a while since I did these), all done in separate passes and combined in Photoshop. The sky was included afterwards as well.

He. I find I can't stop.. There is enormous amount of details to explore with my imagination. It is fantastic!
If you don't mind my asking, how many renderings is this composed of?

Wow, now you're asking...it's been a while since I did this one. I did the main city and the foreground buildings as seperate elements but for each I think I did a basic render, without any direct light, an Ambient Occlusion render, a key light and a Top Light to highlight the roof tops in places, combined them all in photoshop and painted the sky using a combination of photographs and painting. The ships were done as seperate renders and added later.

Thank you so much for describing your work to me!
It is really interesting to hear how other artists work. How they think when composing an image.
Now I am even more impressed with "The Forge"!
