Cerin was dressed in proper boiled leather all shaped and hard. Up close he looked almost silly in it, with those skinny arms, but his little braids were pretty in his feathery hair.
  He knocked himself twice trying to get up onto the cart, and stepped on his cloak once. It made him turn bright red, all in his cheeks and his neck in splotches, and then he had to try twice again to sit down.
  Luse pressed her lips together as hard as she could and made herself look at the road so she wouldn’t even crack a smile."Are you always so stiff?"
  "I keep my duty always in sight," he said quiet, and then he looked away.
  “Sure,” she said, “but you’re gonna have a real sore ass if you keep on sitting like that.”
