You can find his journals, which is really the only information provided, at the moment, as to how he was before his breakdown.

Sweet Cicero doesn't mean to be scary... though it certainly helps.

I don't know how I would respond to some of the odd things Cicero says on occasion. I think my conversations with him would involve a lot of shuffling about and moving away to different parts of them room to get away from him. He strikes me as someone who has to be practically on top of someone to talk to them.
Sweet Cicero doesn't mean to be so close. It's just... No one ever wants to be close to Cicero... so he gets close to them, instead. That way, they don't just hear, they listen.

Oh maaaaaan, Cicero. Gotta love Cicero.
Though, admittedly, the first time I ran into him it was two in the morning and I'd just taken some Advil PM, making for a decidedly surreal first encounter. Thinking back on it now, I honestly can't think of any other way I'd have wanted it to happen.
One SHOULD be trippin' balls when talking to him. That is my story and by gum, I'm stickin' to it.

Would it have a boomerang effect, do you think? Would he actually drink himself sane? Would he be even MORE gloriously incoherent?
I MUST KNOW. MINIONS. GET ON THIS.

I could imagine my character's reaction to such a statement. "Good thing it's cold out, wouldn't want her... stinkin' up the place... *Cicero narrows his eyes slightly, a twitch at his brow- a little more than irked by the traveler's words, "Nevermind."

In a way, though, it seems like he's the type that would only stab if he was wronged in some way [in my opinion anyways]. Like when you first meet him. If you convince the farmer to help him, he and his family live, while as if he convinces you to turn in Cicero the family is found dead.
Therefor, I believe we are safe to hug him <3 [hugs and suddenly gets stabbed]
Cicero: One problem with your theory. I'm delightfully mad![cackles and dances on corpse]

I know this is late since I only just found your lovely Cicero drawings, but, Madness has its own sanity if you will. Cicero scolds Astrid for not following the tenets and since he was a strict follower of these tenets before he snapped they become his guidelines witch his insanity never crosses. Meaning he would follow them including the not killing of your Brotherhood siblings. He didn't kill Arbjorn, after all, just injures him out of self defense. SOOO...being a member of the Dark Brotherhood grants us certain protections ^_________^ just my opinion though >.> ..obviously
