Description Would you kinldy reblog on tumblr: [link]

Redrawing of one of my first drawing of dragons ever, because I didn't know what else to do.
I used to draw tons of asian dragons back in 2008 and drawing this thing here reminded me of how much fun they are x3

I will show you a side-to-side comparison of the two drawings later :3

Thank you :3
I used copic markers and colour pencils (Polychromos, to be exact)

Awesome! At first I thought the background was done with watercolors since it's so smooth looking. But I guess that's just the high quality of the markers.

actually not, haha xD
I used one of the cheaper brands of markers for the background, touch twin markers from ShinHan - they don't blend very well into other colours as copic markers do, but they are great for large areas. the paper also has to do a lot with the look of the colours (bleeding on the edges, streaky look etc.)

Huh, you don't say? I'm just now starting to mess around with markers myself. (I mostly use Prisma pencils |D) I didn't know that the paper mattered that much. What kind do you use?

The paper matters a lot. I had to try out a few brands until I found something that's good for the way I colour (I want to achieve soft shadows, also by using polychromos as second shading layer over the markers)
I use mondi colour copy laser printer paper. The "normal" marker paper that copic sells is also okay, but I perfer the laser printer paper, because it's thicker. (Laser printer paper is at all pretty good for markers, because it usually is very smooth, you just have to look for paper that's for laser printers only, and not for other printers as well, otherwise the colour will bleed too much or the colours don't blend into each other - It would also be good to look for that the paper isn't glossy like photo paper, because the colour wouldn't stay on the paper that way)
Sorry if I talk too much, I'm just trying to give you all the information that I think is necessary :'D

I had the whole bleeding problem a few times; I was using just regular sketch book paper at first, then after the bleeding, I tried using watercolor paper, but because of the texture, it left everything all bumpy. After that I just tried using regular old printing paper, but still got the same bleeding problem, but that totally makes sense now that I think about it. I'll defiantly have to try out the laser printing paper, especially after seeing this piece and how good it came out.
Thank you so, so, so much for all the awesome info and for humoring me for as long as you did

xD
hast du mal reines laserdrucker-papier versucht? (also was wirklich nur für laserdrucker gedacht ist)
ist von der oberfläche her meist sehr glatt, aber nicht glänzend, das zeug is super für copic-arbeiten
