Description I find the scale to be really interesting in this picture.... the simplicity of the composition gives you the impression you're looking at a small area, but in fact the area photographed is quite large.

That line running through the bottom quarter of the photo is actually about 8 foot in the air, and the rest of the wall is about that size again. I actually had to stand up on a bench in a raised area on my toes and zoom in, to get this shot.

Good thing I'm one for looking up, or I would have missed this!

Yes, I was quite pleased with the composition in this one. All the little bits and pieces seemed to really fit.

Would have love to have torn down some of those posters after shooting, but unfortunately I'm not 7'6"

Thanks again!

mercury-yume [2006-07-27 16:34:32 +0000 UTC]

wow, you're right, I thought it was just eye level with a wall, that's really impressive, the density of the lower quarter gives a sense of constructs, like a city, it's so deliciously fitting, the balance is a great choice.

etc-etc-etc In reply to mercury-yume [2006-07-28 03:27:17 +0000 UTC]

See, I fooled you too!

I like your interpretation about the lower level.... in fact it could almost look like high rise buildings under a big blue sky.

How are you going?

mercury-yume In reply to etc-etc-etc [2006-07-28 03:43:21 +0000 UTC]

I'm going alright, except that I'm sick for the third time a row, just in time for my first few weeks of uni...I've already been skipping my Tuesday classes in exchange for sleeping in.

But besides that, once I get all my readings under wrap, I'll be fine, and I'm going the Brisbane Internation Film Festival for an 'assignment', should be really good. Maybe I'll get some artwork done in there....somewhere.

Yes, I agree, high rise buildings uner a big blue sky. Zion is a brilliant title.

How are you going btw?

Aww I hope you feel better! The film festival should cheer you up

As for me, well I'm not so good. Been very stressed and sicker than usual and made my mind up to leave school (well Art, it was the only subject I had left) - but have found myself regretting the decision every second of the day and wondering if there was some way I would be able to get all the work done. Gah who knows. I was going okay with Art prac, but all those theory assignments and the thought of the exams was just too much. I can't even write/read most days I'm so tired.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mercury-yume In reply to etc-etc-etc [2006-07-28 06:40:56 +0000 UTC]

oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear that. It seems a shame to have to stop doing Art, but there must be some way to compensate for the difficulty of exams and theory assignments. I understand they must be taxing for you, especially with there being much less enjoyment involved than there is in the prac work.

Funny you should say that, as this was actually taken in Newtown!

It's cool to think people are actually thinking about your work away from the computer, while they're just out and about doing their everyday thing. Quite humbling!

yay, i thought it was - it just has that alternative atmosphere

u know, as much as you like people thinking about your work away from the computer, i like that i can look around and go "that looks like something collette would take photos of", or furiouslee or ikhon or any of those... i think thats kinda cool...

nice blue and interesting texture... seems such a nice gradient so clean , and then the mess of stickers down the bottom compliments/contrasts to the smooth texture up the top... kool.

I agree with you about the spacial size aspect as well, theres just something about it... these would more dramatic on a larger scale/canvas... deviantart really doesnt do them justice, you cant really gain the overal impact of the original.
