Description
Tyrio isn’t one to celebrate his own birthdays. Yes, he is thankful for being born; and yes, he is thankful for all of the birthday greetings and presents. However, he just sees his birthday as a normal, everyday day. Honestly, he’d rather just have a small lunch or dinner to celebrate, and end the special day with that.
So when his father threw him a surprise party in the guild, Tyrio wasn’t exactly thrilled.
As soon as Tyrio entered the guild, the dog was greeted with loud poppers and flashing camera lights. Colorful streamers, which were a little too bright and colorful for Tyrio’s tastes, lined the walls and ceiling. Too many balloons filled the room, some tied down and others floating freely. The balloons were uncoordinated with no real theme; a majority were happy birthday, but some balloons had nothing to do with birthdays (“Seriously, father? Poop emoji balloons?” “I’m sorry! I wanted to make sure there were enough balloons for you, so I bought them all!” “You did WHAT?!”). There were delicious looking foods and drinks on a huge table, inviting everyone to eat and drink as much as they wanted. Next to it was a smaller table filled with presents for the birthday dog. There were even a couple of party games for everyone to play, even though some were childish (“Really? Musical chairs?” “IT’S A CLASSIC!”)
Tyrio couldn’t help but frown as some confetti fluttered down and settled on his head. It’s not that he didn’t appreciate the gesture, he just didn’t like having a party that was meant for only him. He disliked being the center of attention where the focus was solely on him, and not on an issue or topic that should be discussed. He really wanted to leave and just let them celebrate without him. However, he could see the hard work that was put into the party. Not to mention, having a party without the star would be a bit pointless.
With a sigh, Tyrio mumbled his thanks and removed the annoying pieces of paper stuck to his hair. He walked into the guild, deciding to stay and try to enjoy himself. It shouldn’t be too hard, considering there was one thing to look forward to.
“…Where’s the cake?”
Shorter alternative story:
Tyrio frowned deeply as pieces of confetti landed on him. He wanted to leave, but the cheerful expressions of the party goers kept him still. He could see the hard work put into this surprise party meant for him, and decided to stay.
The dog removed the annoying pieces of paper and gave a defeated sigh. “...There better be cake.”

So, I was fixing Tyrio’s bio picture (because the unorganized mess was annoying me), and I noticed it was his birthday! I decided to just draw a quick thing for it. The story just sorta happened while I was trying to work on his expression. Okay, so the reason I put the both the small story, and the shorter alternative drabble is because I’d like your opinion on this! I would like to know which one you guys prefer: the small story (which sorta adds to Tyrio’s character), or the shorter alternative story (which is short and quick, but doesn’t go into character depth).
Honestly, I prefer the small story because it gives a little more life to Tyrio. However, I do realize that people prefer to have short stories that are actually short. The focus is supposed to be on the drawing after all, so there shouldn’t be too long of a story. Of course, not all of my images will have a story with them, but the ones that will have a one…. Well, I’d like to know which is better. A small story or a very quick drabble.
Oh, and any kind of tips and advice for drawing or writing is appreciated!
Thank you!
