Description Pt. III of the Lanthrish Locales
Pt. I "The Great Tower of Skye" [link]
Pt. II "Palinroe" [link]
'Late in the morning, as the militia passed the half way mark of the isthmus, Ogden could see a shadowy sliver on the misty, east horizon.
"Aleth Hult, I imagine." his brother said "Heart's Hold". . . . . .
. . . . . .The whole of the militia gazed at the ancient tower as they set up camp across the Highroad. Many of the West Lanthrish there had never laid eyes before upon the sacred spire.
All about the land near Aleth Hult stood tall and slender trees, evergreen in nature. Centuries of construction had come and gone, and the evidence lay strewn about the area. Ruins from the time of the Tralysan Empire had become the last to fall. The Lanthrish established two tabernacles. One was a refurbished Tralysan temple. This was for the East, and sat directly south of Aleth Hult across the Highroad. Stairs leading up to the holy house were flanked by angelic pillars that faced the tower, with heads bowed and wings stretching forth to the same. The West had a more contemporary chapel erected near a white cliff, one mile to the west of Aleth Hult.
The tower itself was fashioned thus: Aleth Hult sat upon its own mount, and seemed to be rooted there. The sole way to the tower was upon the south and only approachable by a stone span accessed by a path near the highroad. This entry was a tunnel leading up to the Deacon's Ring. The Ring was an encircling walk way about the base of the tower, with an outer wall like that of fortifications with the roots of the hill clawing at it's crennels. Directly north, south, east and west on the inner wall of the Ring were circular windows that looked into blackness and cool air. Beneath the windows sat slanted stone altars. It is said, the first deacon's wrote down the word of God, who spoke to them from these windows - simultaneously. Parts of the Ring's path lead through natural arches of rock that climbed like moss about a third of the height of Aleth Hult. Curiously, there was no way into the tower itself from the Deacon's Ring, and therefore now way in for any man. Whoever had created this place meant for no one to enter, and the rest of Aleth Hult was made in such a way that one must doubt it built by man, dwarf, elf, nor any being of the world.
The stone rising from above the Ring was seamless, save slender lines that rose up to meet crowned pillars which separated one third of the tower from the rest. Tall lines continued on with shallow buttress' and jutting stone, windows of other strange make and design which no culture could claim. At last, Aleth Hult rose 1000 feet above the Isthmus of the World's Eye, where there appeared to be a circle of standing stones atop the tower tip. Sixteen was their number, standing four times higher than the tallest man. Atop this were more stones laid across and bridging each standing stone, one to another. . . . . . .
. . . . . . . In the late hours of dark, Ogden looked upon Aleth Hult. The tower seemed to touch the stars high above. Ogden's eyes were fixed upon the pinnacle of stones that crowned Aleth Hult. He wondered what else was there. What was it's purpose? At that moment, as something slow at first, one of the stars, overhead, appeared to increase in brightness. However, it quickly became apparent that this was no star! In the blink of an eye, the growing light flashed in a rush toward the tower and crashed into it's crown. Yet, there was no explosive noise. Only the faint sound of the great white fire that came to life at the center of the still standing stones.'

True, true. Most natural! I do prefer this one myself. The edits were fun to tinker with, that's all.

Hi David, its been a long time since I commented on one of your works (or anything here, I have been out of deviantart for a while like I said in my journal of one hundred pages )

Anyway, I like this one a lot. The other versions are maybe more elaborated, but you can see the rawness of your hand work here, and I appreciate it of the traditional art.

About the art itself, the tower is really impressive, a really imposing sight an its awesome how you managed to represent it using proportions and composition... a centered composition of "lone" element (lone because its the only object of its size) always works in my book! The birds are a nice touch, I liked them a lot.

I dont have much to criticize, perhaps more confidence in your lines, but thats all I could critique and is not really a bad thing here...

Good Work!!

Thank you for the excellent comment, my friend! It's good to see you still around! I'm a and run kind of person these days.
Very kind of you on appreciating the raw illo over the edited versions! Yes, trying to make the tower look both tall and gargantuan was a test, let me tell you!!!
I'm always careful with the lines. I have to reign in my hand or lines will go crazy!!!
Thank you again, Vera!

"Nice tower...you think I can use it to..." Rush is interrupted.

"Didn't Mom ground you from messing with ANYMORE towers after what happened last time???" asked James.

"Oh yeah...you know for some reason they are still mad at me for making it lean!?" says Rush innocently.

"Wow, who knew huh," says James sarcastically.

" Suddenly, what seemed to be a small breeze transformed into a mini-tornado under the very gaze of Ogden the Great. The silhouette of what looked like an old man appeared out of nothingness and made its way in front of the campfire. The humanoid shadow seemed to play a game of hide and seek with the light and the darkness surrounding an amazed and puzzled Ogden. Who... Or what is it? Flames were twisting and turning and crawling and flickering and vanishing into the darkness until the only light remaining was from Ogden's ever-shining sword. He stood up, facing what seemed to be a being of pure evil ( well, it stank a lot, and to Ogden, that was enough to label it as "evil" ).

" Who may you be, old man? " asked Ogden, greatly impressed by the old man's introduction, yet facing him without any fear.

" Who I am is none of your concern, Ogden. "

" How do you know my name, who are you? "

" DAMNIT I TOLD YOU THIS IS NOT IMPORTANT... but the question you might really want to ask is this: Who entered this holy tower? Who may HE be... Or "It" be... Yes... "

The old man seemed to know a lot of things. Ogden's stupidity couldn't let him say anything smart, so he let the old man explain everything.

" This being, this very flame you saw, it is an old man, older than I. His name is Kriss. "

" That's it? Kriss? "

" Yes. Kriss Kringle. He is also known as Santa Claus. "

" Santa what? "

" Never heard of him? "

" Nope. "

" Well, every christmas he rides on his magical sleigh with his deers and he gives presents to the children of the world. "

A half-drunk soldier came and joined the conversation.

" Well, my two sons, Ulfgren, Ragnok and even my sweet little daughter Arlaine never got any gifts from that Santa guy. I think you're just yet another old man searching for spare change. WELL YOU CAN SHOVE IT. " yelled the fat and ugly soldier. He had a big beard and some chicken meat could be seen here and there through his facial hair. For every two or three words coming out along his fetid breath, some saliva would find its way out of his mouth. His eyes were round and small, pretty much like a guinea pig. "His", but it could easily have been "It", given his physical appearance and horrid behavior. His name was Barney. Barney was such a pain in the ass. But alas, his father was Robert de la Roche, a famous lawyer of Palinroe, and he could never be thrown out of the army, how idiotic he might be. Most of the soldiers were already fueled with what remained of the finest ale and some drunk-yards had been listening to the conversation. About 40 men in all were staring at the evolving situation.

" Who is this impudent speck? " asked the old man.

" That's- "

" I CAN HANDLE MYSELF OGDEN!!! " Barney was really angry now. " I'm Barney, second in command. I'm the guy who's in charge of kicking old men in the throat! "

" How rude. I stand right there, a simple, unarmed old man, naked under my thin robe, with no muscles, no money and, and... and you dare threaten me!? "

Ogden quickly came between both sides, ending the argument by drawing his luminous blade.

" GENTLEMEN! Gentlemen... Do calm down. We are not mere barbarians. We are soldiers, we have been educated with pride for ourselves and respect for others and we have been employed to protect the law and thus we must obey the law. There will be no bloodshed here... Bring the old man in the sand pit so he can be devoured alive by the giant spiders of Lorthon. "

" You'll pay for this Ogden! " angrily cried the old man. Some soldiers took the old man away. Worried, Barney came to Ogden with haste.

" Ogden, I don't like that tower and that Santa guy. "

" Me neither, Barney, but what can we do about it? "

" Let's destroy that goddamn tower. I never liked it anyway. It's attracting those pigeons and I got many complaints from soldiers who got shit on their helmets. "

" Yeah. Bring the catapults! ""

And this, alas, was the last day the brilliant tower of Aleth Hult stood still. Oh... And it was also the day Santa Claus died.

Wow, Simon. . . . . that's quite a twist on my tale. Great job!
Bizarre enough, an old man does appear in the story here, but it sure as hell ain't Kriss.
And I couldn't possibly destroy Aleth Hult, it's a good place to hang out.
Santa can go kiss Rudolph's big red nose for all I care though!

I enjoyed it so much I believe I'll do more of this in the upcoming days. I hate ordinary comments so I'm doing my best at doing something original that's worth the time and skills the artist ( in this case; YOU ) took and used for making his/her artwork.
