Description This is the second of two paintings I did for my senior show at my college it is a portrait of my boyfriend in black and white with red drapery, similar to the portrait charcoal drawings I did recently. I told my boyfriend to get comfortable on the bed and so he did which is one of the reasons he looks sleepy (also because it was quite late at night ). I\'m a lot happier with this portrait than with my self-portrait of the same kind because I feel like I achieved the feeling of flesh as well as the comfy mood .

Oil on Canvas. 24" x 30"

Okay, wow. This piece is stunning! I love the composition and use of the negative space. I'm not usually one for partial color but this works for me. I like the shading on the skin and everything looks to be in perportion. I also notice that the highlights on the face are brighter that the over body parts, that means oily skin! AWESOME! I must also tell you how pleased I am with the subject choice. My fiance is a "larger" man and while he refuses to allow me to draw or photograph him, this image to me shows people that there is beauty in curves on men. anyways, I also detect yellow in the shade work... i like it. it took me forever to get comfortable enough to do something like that in my paintings. Over all this image seems to be the work of a confident artist. (and KILLER drapery by the way!)

These are really good. I'm curious how long did these two take?

I like the color scheme but it does make flesh look a little dead. I'm only a beginner digital artist so I don't know how hard it is to mix skin colors. I know its for school so limited palettes are normal learning thing.

Thank you! About time spent, in this one I spent probably around 6 hours, which is why it has a more painterly feel to it since I used the alla prima technique. On "Revelation" I spent a little longer because there was drapery all around plus legs so that one probably took me about 10 hours more or less.

Black and white does make skin look dead somewhat, but I used it here because it was the theme I got inspired by my charcoal and sanguine drawings and wanted to do that same palette on oils. Plus I like painting with limited palettes
