Here I used the shutter speed to help me use the blinding sunlight that bounced off the flower to blind my camera's eye to everything behind the bloom

You might be able to do something similar with your own camera, just keep trying it out I took about a dozen photos of this flower before I had it just right. I'll have to show them to you

The cool part about the black is that its not a backdrop or prop of any sort. This flower is growing next to my neighbors house. This shot was captured outside with a blazing afternoon sun overhead I used the bright reflection from the flower and my camera to cause the house shingles behind the flower to almost disappear

I'm in love with that technique now...I'll try not to abuse in ^_^;

Very cool technique, Kind of reminds me of some of Brett Weston's photo's with the use of black and negative space.
