There's something that's been driving me nuts the past several days. Been redoing it over and over.
There's these () shaped missile/engine parts on the sides of a flying craft. First I had thought of them like cylinders, so I made two rectangular boxes and put a circle on each end and filled things in - but then I realized they weren't cylinders with slightly tapered ends, but an arc thing. So then I tried redrawing it with some guesses about what such a shape would look like, and added some circles, also with a bit of guessing. ...Then I realized the perspective lines I used didn't match the lines for the rest of the picture (which I had kind'a just eyed, until I got to the craft). So then I tried finding the vanishing points of the complete picture and then used those to redo the craft. ...And then tried doing those side pieces several times and haven't gotten them quite right yet.
Can you tell me how in the world to make that type of shape with perspective lines? I can't even figure out how to make the outline properly, let alone the fancy stripes that run both length-wise and width-wise. And, though I think a rectangular box should be able to work somehow, I don't really know how to make a perfect square in perspective, which I kinda need to make a circular object... And I know some of the circle stripes should be squished, but it keeps making it look somehow flattened.

I have a tutorial on complex compound curves in the works, and in the meantime, my tutorial on foreshortening may help a bit:

Okay, thanks. ^_^
I hope the one you're working on will give me a good idea about the correct way to draw the missile shape. I've tried drawing it so many different ways with perspective lines to make it 'correct' (because I don't trust my eyes enough to eyeball it), and still haven't figured it out.
I'd finally found a YouTube video about making a perfect cube in 3-point perspective, which I thought would help get the width vs height correct, but then, when I tried mapping out the flattened shape on two axises and then filling in some of its decorative stripes using squares and ovals... the ovals broke the outline. ...I remember that happening to me in past pictures, too, where I'll draw a square and put in an oval, and then it doesn't fit. It fits the square itself, but the diagonal parts of the circle are wider/taller than the cross points.

Yeah, it's a tricky one if you're trying to get it absolutely perfect!

This could apply with doing any shape in perspective, really.
