Yes you're right ! F1.0 is not usual !
I use an old 50mm F1.4 on my Nikon D80. Electronic connection is off with this old manual lens. My camera gives wrong Exif data in that case.
Most of my portrait are done with this old lens at 1.4, 2 or 2.8 apperture.

I was about to buy a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AI some time ago but I thought it would not function on my d90 (e.g. exposure). Is this the lens you use? does it work?

My 50mm F1.4 is a very old one (not an AI).
I bought it on eBay (70 euros : very sheap) and the seller told me that the lens was not connectable onto Digital camera. No problem, I just had has to file it a little bit and the physical connection was done.
To my mine the AI lens should be connectable to D90 camera. May be electronic data will be lost but that's not the main problem.
You have to check this problem and buy an old one because new one are too expensive.
