The USS Euderion in a skirmish with the I.K.S. K'tarro.

Originally launched in the Year 2259 as a testbed ship for the Constellation class, the USS Euderion NCC-1951 had to be patient to be officially put into service. She underwent a full year of test missions and spent another year in drydock for evaluations.

In April of the year 2261 the Euderion was allowed to launch again under the command of Captain Gihlan't'aehn. The test systems were replaced and she got deep space equipment and was sent to the Klingon border. She should complete a dual mission profile and on the one hand examine the sparsely explored areas in the Alpha and Beta Hromi sectors more closely, and on the other hand be available to the Watchtower starbases between Barolia and Ramatis. The areas were occupied by the Klingons in the Four Year War, who still interpreted the borders quite freely.

Over the years, the ship served largely as a supplier to the Federation's border stations and had a total of 19 minor skirmishes with Klingon cruisers. With one Klingon commander, Captain G'runth, Captain Gihlan had developed a competitive-like relationship. G'runth commanded the I.K.S. K'tarro, an upgraded D7-A cruiser (K't'kara class) and never missed an opportunity to humiliate the Starfleet crew whenever they tried to cross the Azure Nebula, which was actually a neutral territory for both powers, the Federation and the Klingon Empire. The Euderion and Captain G'runth played a game of cat and mouse more than once, which often caused damage to both ships, but luckily never resulted in deaths.
