John Sheppard was an officer in the United States Air Force and, since 2004, a member of the Atlantis expedition, commanding the expedition's military contingent for much of that time.He is also the current leader of the Expedition's main flagship team, the First Atlantis Reconnaissance Team or AR-1 for short.
