Two Akyazi class Perimeter Action ships escorting incoming shuttles to Starbase 90.

The Akyazi class was a 216 meter long Perimeter Action ship which design dated back to the mid 2260s. The original design was planned to replace the many losses made against the Klingons during the four Years War and to have an active border patrol fleet. However, a Federation sub-committee questioned the need for a massive tactical fleet given the UFP mandate for peaceful dialogue and a decline in hostilities on the border. The project was then indefinitely delayed by the Peace elements in the Government and was reduced in number as well. It was thought the project would be altogether be canceled.
In reality, pro military factions in the government took back control after a few years and the project was put back into production. It took almost twenty years to get from when the project was first planned to when the Prototype USS Akyazi was finally commissioned after quickly passing its builders trials.
The first ships of this class were official commissioned in 2286.

The Akyazi class is a small, cramped ship with crews around 50 to 80. It dont carry fighters or shuttles, and only a small group of marines for tactical away missions.
The ship is very fast and agile, but the emergency systems can only be maintained for a few minutes.

Perimeter Action Ships such as the Akyazi class are the first line of defence in the Tactical fleet arsenal. For a ship of its size, its heavily armed with 8 dual emitter phaser relays and three photon torpedo launcher. The ships carry extremely heavy shields for its size and can withstand a huge amount of damage.

Akyazi ships have only limited scientific equipment, so it is in first line a tactical starship and not much helpful on science and explaratory missions.
