Description
Vulcan Lirpa Prop from the Star Trek Episodes "Amok Time" (TOS) and "Kir'Shara" (ENT). Goal of the Prop was a hybrid design between the TOS and the ENT Lirpas. I used the overall look and shape from the TOS version with the decals and vulcan engravings from the ENT version. The final prop was used for a challenge in a bachelor party.
Made mostly from wood. The staff was a curtain rod, and the blade was made from an old cupboard i saved from junk. The maze thing at the end was the bottle of an plant sprayer. I had to made it lightweighted so no one harms itself in the bachelor challenge.
In the Star Trek Universe, the lirpa was a traditional Vulcan melee weapon, consisting of a metal staff with a fan-shaped blade on one end and a club on the other. The haft below the shaped blade had some Vulcan lettering on it.
In 2154, Vulcan commandos sent by the Vulcan High Command after Jonathan Archer and T'Pol wielded lirpas, since energy weapons were useless in Vulcan's Forge. Archer disarmed one of them and was very familiar with the use of this weapon due to having mind melded with Syrran.
Lirpas were also used by combatants in the kal-if-fee, the traditional mating challenge during the pon farr.
