what kind of pen is that i have a sharpy fine point but it never draws or shades as good as my friend(who uses a diffrent pen but still inkish)

I use either a "pigma micron" (for very small details) or just a plain 'extra fine' pilot pen

Albrecht DΓΌrer is a great influence....with his linework/black and white work. Especially "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" [link] check it out if you haven't seen his stuff!

I don't know, color int eh background might take away fromt he awesome skulls but if you really want color how about a muted color like a sepia or something.
