Description I often wonder what the world without humans would look like to us now that pristine nature is all but gone. Forests that were never planted or clearcut, ancient trees free to grow gnarly with age, mosses and lichens thriving in unpolluted air.

I painted this Gryposaurus and wanted to experiment with this idea with the background. The animal is walking on a sand bank on an ancient river's edge, in the area that is today the Kaiparowits Formation in Utah. On a similar but much older sand bank grows a row of thousand-year-old plane trees. The Gryposaurus's colouration is inspired by female great curassows (Crax rubra), a large South American bird.

Those are some lucky trees. Usually it's rare to see groves of them that old, especially by a shifting river.

Just having a stroll along the river....until a tyrannosaur along and eats him alive. (BTW, what species of tyrannosaur lived alongside Gryposaurus?)

I think it's the gnarley lookin' trees in the background. They do look very reminiscent of Snow White.
