Saw Miyazaki's "Ponyo" for the first time yesterday, and got a kick out of the dad-character because, aside from his oppressively controlling nature and unbridled (apocalypse-planning!) hatred of the human race, THAT is the character I saw myself as!

IMO, in good fiction, characters are supposed to be varied from each other, but relatable in the way that either we see ourselves as being like them, or are reminded by them of someone else IRL whom we know..... In BAD fiction, Mary Sues and Gary Stus ATTEMPT to achieve this by having no distinctive personality traits whatsoever, resulting in a one-size-fits-all/none effect......

I definitely fall into the general category of Creative Eccentrics-----IMO somewhere between this guy, Willy Wonka, and Geppetto the woodcarver. That outlines a range of being too strict and serious, being wholly inscrutable to a frightening extremity, and being so darn conservative and kind that I probably make some people (nobody worth impressing ) sick.

Regarding this papercraft project..... I just thought Fujimoto's Elixir bottles were kinda pretty-----and found out that a tiny, local theater which runs only cult-classic & oddball independent films just happens to be screening "Ponyo" tomorrow. I THINK one or two of these bottles might be simple enough to 3D-model and papercraft by tomorrow morning.... Probably not, though, given the accuracy of my project estimates in the past....

Still, might as well be another left-field addition to my papercraft-replicas portfolio; I do like being unpredictable....
