On the afternoon of October 26, 1974, we're on Southern Railway's Brown Mountains Line at Beaver Creek Summit to chase Southern MS Mikado #4501 on the 1974 Season of the Brown Mountains Steam Special from Spartanburg SC to Ashville NC. Soon, we caught the Crescent Green Mikado leading the return trip to Spartanburg cresting Beaver Creek Summit heading Southbound. This season was the 2nd Season of the Brown Mountains Steam Special which was added to the Southern's Steam Program's Regular Schedule after the first season. The Mikado was performing well on this trip & is making great time along the line as it hauls the 11 car Consist to Spartanburg. The Passengers had lunch in Ashville while the train was turned & serviced for the return trip back to Spartanburg. The 4501 would arrive back in Spartanburg, that evening.
