Description The drawing is my submission for the event. However I chose to accompany it with some writing. The Esk depicted is Fracture (ID 4684).

Into The Magical Abyss

After leaving the wing he created out of curiosity, fracture wandered around the conservatory. Aimless, admiring the glass boundaries and sticking his face and paws in places he probably shouldn't. Before too long he noticed his swarm behaving restlessly, like the fireflies were disturbed by a distant longing. They were moving erratically from side to side, behaving more like a swarm of wasps, rather than Luciola Flash Fireflies. Flashing their lights way out of sync, very different from their usual behavior, which was calm. His elemental, too, was acting weird, the dew was leaning heavily towards one direction with intent. As if if was going to pull Fracture forward that way, sometimes even letting go of the mushroom caps it was usually so attached to, the dew drop's pull was strong it had lead him places before, but not like this. After wandering around for just a little longer, eventually he followed the direction his companions tried to lead him. As he too felt a strange pull from within. His journey led him through thick forests, eventually coming to a smaller enclosed room he could barely make out through all the vines and overgrown roots. Wiggling his way through the wall of roots and moss, he found himself in an open chamber. The roots that covered the walls looked ancient, most of the roots were covered in damp, glistening moss. Even the ground he was standing on was treacherous and fully overgrown. Around the room were floating round rocks. They too had moss and were glowing brightly, as if possessed by magic. Bright yellow and blue glows, floating around the room freely.

Totally absorbed by the glows he started observing them, slowly they floated in a specific pattern. He watched for what seemed like hours, before deciding to try grabbing one of the rocks and moving it around. Doing this, the other rocks got jittery in their movement. Though whenever he'd let go, they would soon recover and start moving in their respective patterns again. He realized that when he grabbed hold of a rock and kept it still, the others would adapt to a different pattern to compensate for the loss of one of their own. Seeing this development, he decided to trap one of the glowing orbs under the tree roots. If it was still there when he returned, he made up his mind to kidnap it for his own.

He then focused his attention on the passage that seemed to have just appeared out of thin air. It was like a cave, or an underground tunnel. Seemingly going on for miles, though there was an end to it, he could see light coming out from the other end. Fractures mind ran wild, thinking of what he would find beyond this point. Feeling a much stronger pull now the tunnel opened up, like he was physically barely able to stay in this place. He felt warm and cozy at the same time, which made him shiver. For what would be comforting and nice for others, felt like hell to him. He didn't like warmth, or a feeling of closeness to others. He enjoyed exploring, pushing himself to the limits. He preferred freezing temperatures, and being on his own. He was curious and intrigued by everything, sticking his face places he shouldn't, to extents that made others highly uncomfortable. He didn't care about his own well-being, going to great lengths to find new things that caught his fancy.

After his mind had slightly calmed down, he noticed the rune glowing brightly sitting above the cave entrance. As if to signal where it would lead to, he however had never seen this rune. Did such a language even exist? If he got closer, maybe he would find writing or other such meaning within the rune. Using the glowing rocks and roots he managed to get way close to the rune. It's glow was magical, like the glow of the orbs floating everywhere. Yet he couldn't seem to find any kind of writing within the runes, even pressing his face or paws into the runes didn't seem to give him any clues at all.

As he jumped down, he figured the only thing left to do would be to move on towards whatever was compelling him to come here in the first place. He looked back once more, checking if the orb he placed under one of the roots was still there, it hadn't seemed to have moved. With that he put his paw into the tunnel, the ground felt damp and soggy in places. Though the feeling of thick moss and dirt was somehow comforting to him, in a weird way. Once in the tunnel, it seemed his environment has changed once again. This tunnel seemed riddled with runes all around, once that definitely weren't there when he first looked into the tunnel from the outside. The glow returned, making his nature features glisten once again. One of the orbs he saw in the last room appeared in front of him, as if to lead him into the right direction. Even though there was only one way through this cave, he was intrigued. After stopping to admire all the runes, he followed. For what seemed like almost an hour, he walked, until suddenly a room opened up.

Wondering where this magical journey would lead him, he pressed on into the next chamber...
