Rain Rain Go Away . . . Please don't take my sun away....

It's been a while since I last submitted more than one deviation a day... I decided today's speshul, since I still have to finish all the good ones for January as planned so I can start with a new theme for February. Plus I thought i'd bring the flow of the Black and White theme into perspective here with Que Sera Sera as the Featured Deviation and this one's as the Recent Deviation picture.

The first deviation (Que Sera Sera) shows one side of the island, while this one shows the other. Very much contrasting between the two, this one was taken also on the 28-80mm lense of one of the lanes between shophouses in the trading and market areas.. I can't call it the business district coz that sounded too formal somehow.

It was raining around noon when *suzums , *Aikuchi and I were there in Pulau Ketam. The soaked wooden planks which serves as a road a few feet above sea level, or rather the mangrove swamp, while the bicycle here ridden by this gentleman is one of the main transportation one needs to get in and around the island, aside from motorbikes and motorized bicycles.

...see what I meant when I said the island was like a world of its own?

Disclaimer:

Please DO NOT mistake this photo as either the aftermath or before the recent tsunamis of the island, which hit the country and many others in South Asia. This is NOT a tribute. Although one death was reported nearby Pulau Ketam, the island itself and Port Klang were not affected by the quake or tsunami. This deviation, however, may be used as a representation of how fishing villages along the north-western coastlines of Peninsular Malaysia or those of Indonesia, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka were like before the disaster. Please interpret this picture and upcoming ones accordingly. For more information on Pulau Ketam, please check the Journal.

  • January Deviation starting the 3rd will feature a collaboration between *suzums , *Aikuchi and I of Pulau Ketam, or Crab Island

  • Week One, December 3rd to 8th, feature will be in Color

  • Week Two starting 10th onwards month-long will be in Black and White

  • No deviations will be submitted on Sundays and Bank Holidays, which falls on the first and third Saturdays of the month, and any gazetted Federal Territory or Public Holidays, unless noted otherwise.

nice light sweet contrast perfect timing.
I especially like how it drags you in and makes you feel like you re standing just behind the camera like a fly. You know when you sometimes think I wish I was a fly ... yeah that feeling.

ink-brains2 [2005-01-12 15:00:35 +0000 UTC]

beautiful shot on this one - i think you got it perfect - definitely one of the images to keep in mind for your portfolio
there's a lot of detail but your eyes flow specifically and the image is such that we are given a main focal point and everything else branches out from there
excellent composition and everything too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

evanhwong In reply to ink-brains2 [2005-01-13 07:29:12 +0000 UTC]

I'd definitely keep this in mind, yes, since such great reviews came about it!

Hmm.. oddly too that too much detailings or lack thereof plays a very vital role in a photo.. Too much, yet if leading one's eye to the focus of the picture, plays very nicely.. Too little, but eases the eye on the subject without much trouble, is also equally nice. Me learning.. and noting that down..

Thanks for the tip!

the contrast here is freakin awesome. i'll start with that. and the water-soaked deck/road adds a great feel. i also really like how it makes me feel like i'm walking through an alley somewhere, but that's just me. this one is just really good, i personally think i'd put it at the top or near the top for this series. it's very well executed. great job again

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

evanhwong In reply to failinginplace [2005-01-11 05:21:33 +0000 UTC]

To the islanders, this isn't just an alley, it's the main link between one side of the island to the other in a crossword maze of roads and pathways.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it as much as I do.. Thank god for the rain too!

i was half way done commenting on this, and firefox closed on me for some reason.

but i think this is what i said... I've been waiting for you to submit your b&ws from the trip! I love the glare that the wood gives when its wet! It adds a nice shine to the photo. the amount of grain is perfect! now i want to go back there!

evanhwong In reply to suzums [2005-01-11 03:37:47 +0000 UTC]

aaww... u must've been sarcastic somewhere, or our lovey dovey replies gotten firefox jealous of it?

Well, the color devs were just a warm up.. The rest's gonna be BW all the way til the end of the month! I counted those that i wanna submit and it's all just perfectly nice to suit each and every weekday of the month! ...unless i got some other appointments outside of office coz damn cyber corners couldnt let me use my thumbdrive..

Hmm... wet wood.. More ideas for future shoots!! YAY!!

We're going back in March, u know right? But i'm sure if that trip didnt turn out well, i'm so gonna go back there over and over and over til i'm fully satisfied about it! So yeah, when u'r back in KL, do expect another trip hopefully either for the shoot, or for the food! I'm buy some antihistamines so i can enjoy them seafoods too!

Good use of sepia tones.

Gump?

Hehehe.. Thank you.. It's that tiny hint of sepia that i liked in my BWs.. Some say I have a style in my photography works.. and I think this is one of 'em. Thanks for the comment.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

green-flow In reply to evanhwong [2005-01-10 16:37:45 +0000 UTC]

yes, Gump. Quite the enchanted forest he was, no?

Well, keep your style, it works very well for you. (works for me too)

evanhwong In reply to green-flow [2005-01-10 17:03:45 +0000 UTC]

You had me confused for a minute coz he's actually Forrest, not Forest.. else i'd proly say Forest Whitaker or something! Hehehe!

Thanks so much for the "style" comment.. I'm trying to get off that coz if i already attained a certain style without knowing, then i should be considered a professional in the general eyes, but not to mine. I still have much to learn. Thank you so much.
