NEG Secretive, stubborn, apprehensive, judgmental, strict
Hazelsong is a seasoned cat and it shows in his general demeanor--he is typically poised and hard to faze, possessing an air of confidence. Despite his rigidity, he is approachable to his Clanmates and cares greatly about their well-being. He makes efforts to be available as both a leader, a counselor, and a friend. He is open-minded to the opinions of his familiars and he takes them into serious consideration, taking a more democratic approach to life. However, he knows when to be strict, and will make tough decisions when others would falter.

To those outside of his Clan, he is a more complex individual. He is polite to the other Clans and always seeks peace with their interactions, but he holds true to the old ways. Hazelsong is judgmental of the others for turning their back on their ancestors, and considers them to be listless, patronizing them and treating them with inferiority. He is wary of their presence and is quick to blame anything wrong happening on them and their lack of belief.

Treating himself as a public figure removed from personal affairs (perhaps a byproduct of his career as a medicine cat), Hazelsong is rather secretive about his private life. He has an intense focus on his Clan and leaves little time for himself. His goals and interests align with that of his Clan's, but beyond that... He doesn't know. His lack of orientation can prove troublesome when faced with personal struggles, and can affect his leadership. Only time can tell if this can be resolved.HISTORYHailing Clan: NightClan • A Clan that had settled in the land long ago, haunting the shadows of trees.

KITHOOD
Hazelkit was born in late Sunleaf, firstborn in a litter of three, as a cat of NightClan. One of better established Clans in their system, their claim was situated within the rain forest where both prey and predator were bountiful. Only the bravest of their neighbors dared stepped paw in unfamiliar and dangerous territory. However, to the cats of NightClan, it was their home. To cope with the extremity their life presented, the Clan was especially devout to StarClan; Hazelkit learned early in his life the importance of their ancestors and the wisdom they offered them. Their guidance was what not only let the cats survive in struggle, but live in prosperity.

Hazelkit, along with his siblings, were raised on the tales and accolades of previous warriors by the elders, the storytellers. The passing of stories was a custom in NightClan. It was to remember the honored ones and to never forget the forsaken, keeping their memory and wisdom alive, and to instill the warrior code upon the next generation. Hazelkit took to these lessons and aspired to uphold his ancestors' legacy to become a great warrior for NightClan.

And it seemed that what he was destined to be. As the moons inched by, the tom grew, larger than his siblings and the other kits in the nursery. The adults lightly complimented the kit's size, saying he would be a powerful little warrior one day. This excited and energized the boy, and undoubtedly inflated his ego. His family was a line of large cats, full of famous NightClan warriors and leaders alike, and his parents looked forward to him one day rising to the same status.

APPRENTICESHIP
When he came of age to be apprenticed, Hazelpaw was assigned to Wrenflight. The she-cat was a seasoned warrior that had seen many battles, and it was suspected that Hazelpaw would be her last apprentice. Eager and prideful of his potential, he was ready to start his training and become the greatest fighter in the Clan. However, his confidence was cut at the knees when he discovered that Wrenflight was not as passionate about battling. Worn and having seen enough wars in her lifetime, Wrenflight was more interested in instilling another important lesson in Hazelpaw: the pursuit of wit, winning battles and debates without the use of claws. Wiliness was something that was often praised in NightClan's stories, but the tom was admittedly more attracted to the tales of glorious battles, and was more than disappointed.

While the senior warrior trained him well in the aspects of fighting, Hazelpaw bulk serving him well in this area, the two spent more time developing his unorthodox warrior skills between hunting sessions and apprentice duties. Hazelpaw shirk these lessons initially. During his training, a sickness swept through NightClan, claiming a number of lives -- including one of his siblings. Wrenflight proved negotiation useful when she managed to persuade a patrol of another Clan to gift NightClan herbs they needed despite their rivalry. Gaining a deeper appreciation for her training, realizing that a warrior cannot solve all his problems through battle, he participated wholeheartedly in Wrenflight's lessons.

WARRIOR
It was these very lessons that earned him his warrior name: during Dryleaf, the Clans began to feud over limited water supply, the scarce rainfall hardly keeping them alive. Before a full-blown war could break out, Hazelpaw stepped in and called for reason from his Clanmates and enemies alike. It enabled a chance for leaders to speak diplomatically and to settle on an agreement that was beneficial for all the Clans. Hazelpaw was honored for his courage and wisdom by receiving the name Hazelsong, for it was his call that stopped bloodshed before it could begin.

Hazelsong upheld Wrenflight's training as she retired to the elders' den and continued to deescalate conflict when possible, and to fight when peace was not an option. During this time he trained his own apprentice, Mouseleap; the tom had been shy and jumpy as a kit, but grew into a confident and capable warrior under Hazelsong's training. Hazelsong was happy, comfortable, and at peace with his life as a warrior of NightClan.

MEDICINE CAT
However, his beliefs were challenged when his path took an unexpected turn. NightClan's medicine cat became fraught with sickness and suddenly passed away without an apprentice to succeed her. Their leader received guidance from StarClan, and he determined that Hazelsong was to be the one to take her place. He was shocked; he was certain his place in life was to be a warrior for his Clan, not a healer. However, he knew better than to doubt the word of his ancestors -- at least out loud. He bowed his head and accepted the duty, managing to talk to the medicine cats in the neighboring Clans to learn the art of medicine from them.

It was a smoother transition than Hazelsong anticipated; already a mellowed tom from his time with Wrenflight, he adjusted to the role of a medicine cat with as much ease as to be expected. Many came to him for advice as well, as he was now deemed the cat with the closest connection to StarClan in their Clan. While he consoled his Clanmates and eased their pain, his doubts never went away. It did not help that his family was disappointed by the turn of events, which plagued Hazelsong with feelings of bitterness and judgement. Why would StarClan do this to him?

Deciding it must be a test of strength, he did not falter in his duty. If he worked hard for his Clan, even if he could not comprehend StarClan's plans, then he was upholding his legacy. He grew to become a popular medicine cat among the Clans, praised for his logical yet compassionate acts; as a healer, he began to appreciate the well-being of all Clans, even those outside of NightClan, and would often share the forest's bounty with his fellow medicine cats. In the code it was said that the strength of the warrior was the strength of the Clan -- in turn, was all of the Clans' strengths not shared with each other, under the guidance of their ancestors?

STARCLAN

When the star meets the earth it will be cleansed of its impurities. When the sacrifice has been made, the land will start anew.

Hazelsong received this prophecy one moon and despite all his wit and deliberations with fellow medicine cats, he could not reach a conclusion for what it could mean. Anxiety quickly grew among the Clans. What were the impurities spoken of? What sacrifices did StarClan want? The answer presented itself in a falling star, striking the earth and destroying the Clans as they knew it. The survivors scattered, not knowing who or what to believe anymore after the sky fell upon them. Hazelsong was among the living, one of the only surviving authority, and rallied those who would follow him.

Hazelsong was known as the voice of reason. He was a medicine cat, an agent of those who had sent the message that had doomed them. Those who believed in the old ways, who held close to their belief in StarClan despite the calamity, went with him. Others left, leaving the land altogether or joining the ranks of those who turned their back on their ancestors. Hazelsong cast harsh judgement on those who went into darkness with no stars to light their path. He guided those who would follow him into new territory, unmarked by their ancestors' wrath. It was where they would began again. It was as the prophecy foretold. For what it was worth, their ancestors' words were true, and they were alive because of it.

Rising to the occasion, finding few that opposed his leadership, Hazelsong became the founder of StarClan. He adopted the name of the old ones, to revere their power and to call upon all those that followed the code that was as old and as true as the stars.ADDITIONALTrivia:
