Description
High Road
This piece took quite some time. My main points of conflict were composition and getting the color scheme/graffiti to feel right. Mass tweaking was conducted to come up with this orangish/blue piece of retro-modern anthro art. Note as well a style shift in character anatomy (my long absence from DA was caused by this style tweak).

Meanings
After studying several old/modern pieces of graffiti/urban art on DA and abroad, I decided I wanted to try a piece that exuded these qualities: individualism, wisdom, tenacity and freedom. I also found much inspiration in the song "High Road" by Fort Minor, and hence, titled my piece after this exceptional song. The characters clothes (who, for the purpose of this piece, is called Jax), as well as the background elements exhibit a sunny demeanor as well as splashes of cool blues and vibrant reds. This color combination represents the sun (or the outdoors where there is ultimate freedom), the sky (where there is no limit) and the blood within us (which is our unique blueprint) respectively. The graffiti (my own take on the style of course) is made to resemble the words "High Road" and give a "street" feel. Jax saying "No" is an interesting addition. I came to the conclusion that pretty much every conflict in this world that was in the name of freedom was based off of this one word...no. The ultimate word of defiance. Any act of being free and doing what you want is an extension of this word; you're saying "no" to something to achieve something else, usually what's better for you. "Going above you" is a line from the song's lyrics, which I felt summed up not only that song, but this pieces meaning, going above something.
