Ben- I think it's safe to say that all of us have lived with/met a Paunch somewhere in our lives. I've been friends with one for years, and lived with a couple as well. Lazy, uninspired, and for some reason completley incapable of understanding their own faults.

They are useful, if nothing else, for hilarious stories later in life, and also as a self esteem booster. "At least I'm not like THAT guy!"

Oh god you could not PAY me enough to eat that but yes, he feels that he is always right, and everyone else is flawed. I know people like that, so paunch is, in a way, my way of making fun of them
